you might have to uninstall both the dvd/cd + its drivers then reinstall them actually unplug the cd/dvd from its power cable then restart your computer plug it back in your computer should activate found new hardware or control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall hope this helps
You may have to delete the device in the "device manager" and reinstall it with the laptop restore disk or download the latest drivers from the Toshiba site for laptops. Also this DVD-RW may not like +R disks or +/_ Disk . It may only like -R disk.
Open Device Manager, click the + sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the drive and choose Uninstall Driver. Shut down your system, and restart. When Windows starts it will detect the new hardware and install the software for it.
Also, try uninstalling your burning software, restart, and re-install. It may be that the software has got corrupt.
Hope they work, and let me know if they do or don't.
i am sorry but i am just getting the half of ur issue ... all i understand the drive is not reading while burning .. but in normal scenarios does it read cd's or dvd's ?
anyways try this
go to device manager > uninstall the dvd/cd drives
delete ede/ata/atapi channels ... both primary and secondary delete the secondary first coz 90% the hard drive is connected in the primary channel and if u uninstall the primary first the system will hang and than restart the system and than try it out and if that doesnt work reply back... we will try some other things
it may have dual laser and one that reads cd's is faulty, but try uninstalling the dvd drive first then re installing it to see if it cures it, if not the drive will need replacing.
Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete.
Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers
There are separate lasers for CD reading, and for DVD reading. This is why it is possible to have a drive that reads only CDs but not DVDs, or the other way around. And your particular combo unit seems to have a lot of these problems.
Since the drive doesn't work it's almost definitely a problem with the drive itself (I'm assuming that there is nothing wrong with the discs you tried to read).
If that drive is still covered by a warranty period, send it back for repairs. Otherwise, I can't see the harm in trying to tinker with it yourself as the DVD portion of it is dead anyways.
Ummm, on a side note...CompUSA is going out of business and they are selling things cheap. I got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40...booyah!
