I am not able to shoot the pictures as nothig is coming clear on CCD
only am able to view the plaback function to see the old images only

This sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

I do have a same problem and I sent it to Canon Repair centre UK - But they got back to me saying its not a faulty CCD but Shutter problem. I am a big fan of canon (so far) (used 4 still and 1 dSLR and was about to buy 40d...but now a big "?"). Even I thought I do have CCD problem too...now Canon is asking 150 GBP to reapair my camera...Not sure whether it is worth or not!!
I have the same problem with lines across the viewing screen, but not when I put it on menu, so I was told it was the CCD Imager and should contact Canon. I contacted Canon USA yesterday 4/17/09 and they have authorized the return of my A95 for the repair of the CCD imager at no cost, once thay determine that it is the problem. We shall see!
