Do not allow the signal receiver window to receive strong direct sunlight, since it can adversely affect its operation. If the signal receiver window is exposed to direct sunlight, close a curtain to block the light.
Using a Fluorescent lamp with a quick starter in the same room may interfere with transmissions of the signal.
The unit can be affected by signals transmitted from the remote control of a television vcr or other equipment used in the same room so make sure if anything recently added to the room is un plugged for testing purposes.
Do no leave the remote control in direct sunlight or near a heater also protect the unit and remote control from moisture and shot which can disclour or damage them.
Check whether the remote control batteries have become old and weak. (replace with new ones)
Try to send the signal again with the remote control pointed properly towards the units signal receiver window
Check whether the remote control batteries are installed with the polarites properly aligned
This could also be a result of the error locking out the remote as well so keep this in mind.
Also if possible unplug it and let it sit for atleast a day then plug it into a different outlet (if possible) to see if there is any change in the units functionality.
After that I would have to say check the area around the base of it and make sure that there is no moisture damage to the unit.
A good cleaning could be in order as well.
then if all else fails and the error presists contact customer service with the issue of the machine they will know what the error codes are.
It sounds as if warm outside air is being drawn back into the room when the unit is not actively cooling. Portable units depend on room air to carry the heat outside, & therefore will not work properly if the room is too airtight. Provide a makeup air passage by leaving the door slightly open, & see if this helps. Use a room thermometer to see if your desired temperature is being reached. Note that if the wind is strong & coming from the wrong direction, it may not be possible to prevent warm air drawback.
Make sure the control or the remote has actually changed the mode setting to cool function. Try new batteries if necessary or see if the main unit has an overide or manual control to select cooling only. It may be that the compressor is not running at all. The hot air you are feeling may be the room temperature air... Can you hear if the compressor is running or is it just the fan ??
If it is still stuck on heat mode, the reversing valve may be jammed.

I just got onto a technician who solved the problem for me. What he had me do was:-
Pull dowwn the slider and use a pen to press the ACL button. That didn't fix it so...
Take off the slider (the way you would to change the batteries). There is an ABCD slider switch and mine was set to "C". I moved it back to "A" and now it works! I am not sure how it got to "C" though ???
The other thing is I had been messing around with the "Manual/Auto" button under the grill on the wall unit. It was set so that the A/C was off. I'm not sure if that is significant.
