Hi,
The thermal fuse protects the entire dishwasher circuit from overload. Not just the heater or motor, but everything. From the diagram in the tech sheet, you can see that this fuse is between the incoming line voltage and the door switch. This means it is controlling all power to the dishwasher. Any shorted component can open the fuse
You will get two new wires with the fuse kit.
You need to make sure you use the new wires in the kit with the new fuse. The old wires have a bad connection that create heat and blow the old fuse
And in this link you can download Step by step instructions on how to install the 8193761 Thermal Cutoff in a whirlpool made dishwasher

If the tech who replaced the thermal fuse didn't replace the wiring that came with the new thermal that could be the problem, there was also a recall on certain models because the motor was getting too hot,you may want to check and see if yours was one of those. copy and paste the web link to see if yours may be included. But if you called Whirlpool when you need service they should have caught it.

Sometimes a wiring problem that happens only occasionally can blow the fuse. Have a look at connectors and wiring harness.Disconnect power first.
If the fuse in control panel keeps blowing, next step is replacing the electronic control (CNTRL-ELEC (USE WPL 8564543).

OK. Didn't see any obvious problem with wiring harness or connectors. Would it be worth replacing wiring harness first?
Thank you. The wiring was not replaced--just the fuse in the plastic piece. Wouldn't the original problem that caused the fuse to blow still exist even with the fuse replaced properly? Mine isn't included in the recall.
