Tracy that is called a power failure inside the PC (if AC power to it is good..
The PC is old. it ran for 14years, and is like a "miracle" that. 2007 to 2021, wow.
here are the simple steps to run on any old PC.
remove all CD / DVD from the tray, all disks there. now. (push eject button and do it)
then remove all usb devices now, :they can short out and overload a PC)

    magic#1
push power button for 10 seconds and release it, this is called the Intel reset Intel G33 Express , resets.
    no cure?
    magic #2:
then do the 1,2,3,4 long hard reset (hard means all hard ware) 100% safe to do, no bad.https://pcdied.com/PSU/hard-resets.html

this step just above resets events, like, ESD, power surge and minor lightning hits.
or just pull the AC line cord at night and put it back in the AM and try PC again.

    AGE:
now the HUGE problem of AGE, 14 year old batteries are NO GOOD. now.
the RTC coin cell is dead, inside on PCs motherboard and must be changed out.

seen on page 144 year,, .
    https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-p...

sold at walmart for a $1 buck

if these checks fail. still then the PC needs more service
a bad PSU, makes all PCs dead.
or the PSU is overloaded (the strip down test)
we do tests to find out both, but takes full PC dismantlement.

    desktops, stripped down. or others.
    https://pcdied.com/PSU/strip-down-testin...

i hope this helps. some, if more tests are needed ask how.

Q1: is the fan in the PSU dead too? seen at rear of PC at PSU grill?

tracy please tell the story please and all evidences, seen and heard.

1: found it dead in a garage sale.? or found in an attic, after 10 years, parked there.?
2: just failed out of the blue, was ok yesterday or last week or last year.?

    HISTORY MATTERS !
the COIN cell battery that old will never ever work again. 1st things first fix. for sure.

we know it old.. Dell Vostro 200 , 14 years old.
It came with virus magnet XP OS, operating system 20 years old , 2001 first XP, and not any good now.
we know it is a desktop
we know the coin cell battery is EOF end of life. (none ever lasted this long)
we know HDD fails this old. (even 5 years old they love to fail)
we know CAPS fail, on the era PC, (huge capacitors in PSU and mainboard both)
Why not get a shop to fix it. (it has near zero value now, this old, )$15 sold on ebay used, dead.

better is to buy a used DELL Optiplex 3020MT/DT used, working, and not pay labor and parts to fix this junk above.

    1,2,3,4 steps
    herehttps://pcdied.com/PSU/hard-resets.html

    The BIG EASY:
or unplug the PC from the wall, AC jack
then wait over night, and the next day try again.

plugged in to good live AC power wall jack. (tested to work this jack, I use hair dryer for AC jack tests)

this I call the lazy fix. , just on hand actions, simple as can be,.

  • Anonymous Jul 29, 2021

    DEAD PC (checks)
The ROOM GFI rated AC wall jacks, must not be tripped, use test lamp or hair dryer at AC jack , to prove it is not dead wall jacks, test PC connected to the wall directly or try another rooms AC wall jacks.
re-seat both end of the AC power cord.
our Kitchen and Baths and Garage here all have GFI and if tripped 1 or all AC Jacks go dead.
the cure is reset them at the main GFI jack. (ground fault interrupters) in all modern homes, for 20 years.

    next up are clues (EVIDENCE)
if you meant the rear GREEN LED, that is the LED that connect to stand by +5v power,.
if that goes out the PSU is bad. AC good.
or some module inside the PC has shorted to that RAIL (pin)

    this old PC can beep
and the lack if beeps tell us, power is dead. DC.
    only why remains.
PC evidence turned on, hold,, the power button for 10 seconds and release.
the PCs fans spin, 1 to 3 or more fans in desktops, must have 2. CPU fan and PSU fan.
some have case fan and the optional, GPU card fan, so do fans spin? they must.
fans can be heard, seen to turn or felt to blow. (3 WAYS TO KNOW) they MUST BLOW.
you sad fans dead and means power failure. see link below and do that.
    Next is... if fans work.
then beeps heard ( a coded beeps)
then LED status, Power button LED glows but does not blink if blinking say so and color.

if the PC is dead video to monitor the monitor then complains with "NO SIGNAL" ( i bet it did)
if still dead do the long power reset 1,2,3,4 (this cures, power surged and locked up PC) and more.
    https://pcdied.com/PSU/hard-resets.html

all of these facts help find the REAL CAUSE.

If found dead this PC at a garage sale, say so.
    what will be bad.
1: the coin cell battery is no good. and can not be skipped, ,must be replaced.
2: the HDD IS BAD, ON MOST. NOW. 14 YEARS OLD
3: Psu may fail. the caps inside ran hot for 14years, and now give up the ghost. (die)

PSU the power supply unit seen at rear, with AC cord attached and the cute green LED. REAR !

4: the GPU card if installed in any PC this old can be bad, 2007 is a super bad year for GPU chips. ROHS lead out failures.

I that card is present, we always remove the card, (if the cards shorts the PSU will not turn on by DESIGN)

and plug the monitor in to the main GPU ports at rear of PC. VGA I bet right 15pin D-shell jack is VGA.

    Sordid history matters SHM?

2007 was bad caps year s and sadly jan1, 2007 is lead out year, USA, mandate and GPU chips were defective.
best is avoid that year. if wise. but yah remove any GPU card i the PCI-e slot if there, that old.
get it out of there. now.
AC power pulled, left casing lid removed, (wait 1/2 hour) then remove the card GPU. if there.
    now test with power connected.

or get the PC fixed in shop,
on most PCs dead usually 1 thing is bad, on this PC 3 or more, (sell it as dead , or retire it)
Core2 PCs are junk . (now)

Could be frozen. try holding power button in for 30 seconds to do a forced power down and then press the power button after about 20 seconds and see if it will boot up.

You should only hear 1 beep. That 1 beep is power on self test, known as P.O.S.T.
That loud flat line sound (And I'm pretty sure about this), was you're CPU. Just because you ran & passed the stressed test is nothing compared to running the system under load? That's why when you put in you other memory nothing changed. If you hadn’t mentioned you clocked up the FSB I would have come to the same conclusion hearing the loud flat line statement.
Can you test the CPU in another board? That is about the only way to be sure it's not the CPU. Memory does not make that kind of sound. Memory makes short & long beeps.
You can try clearing the cmos/bios by going to pg. 2-18 in you're user manual. This will reset the bios back to default settings & cross you're fingers!

If I can be of more service, just post back & let me know how thing go.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Dell OptiPlex GX620 starts up then shuts down repeatedly

Try this: remove the DMOS battery and unplug the on/off switch plug. It's the one in the corner near the power supply. To be sure follow the cable from the front on/off switch board on back to this plug. Then plug the A/C cord in, if the system boots up fine, then replace the front panel power on/off swith board. Naturally you will not be able to power off the computer using the power switch (since we unplugged it), so you will have to just pull the plug. Hope this helps. Joe

Dell Vostro 200 will not connect to internet, what can I do?

check that the lan connection isn't disabled.
go into control panel>network connections.
I would disable it and then re-enable it, that sometimes works. if there is no lan connection showing then you need to download it onto a usb stick from the dell website and install it on the vostro. Product Support Dell US

I could t download attachment even as small as 16kb.It takes ages and would not download at all. What can I do?It is frustrating ! I use a Dell Vostro 1700, with Intel Core duo 1.80Ghz running Windows Vista...

try to turn off security center and any other security software installed in your laptop. if fails. boot to safe mode with networking then try to download again the file. if fails check if other computer can download it successfully using the same connection, router and modem. just to isolate if a security in your router has been enabled.
