Why is my garmin gps stays on loading maps? - Garmin GPS

you have same maps on sd card and on garmin internal memory and garmin became confused when you turn it on

PRobably needs a firmware restore. Go to Garmin Reset. If it fails you need a new logic board. If they don't give you a new one under warranty, are third party Garmin repair services that will fix it for cheap. Also, I found an DYI GPS repair guide,so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult.

The simple way is to send the unit to Garmin they will load the maps for free.
If you keep trying - try this -

With your thumb in the lower right corner of the screen - pushing in - like there is an X there - [ push with your thumb before you turn it on] Turn it on -
when this screen comes up - push YES -

then try your maps.
If they do not load on your pc [ which must have the unit hooked up and a legit copy of the newest maps ] then send the unit to Garmin. They will load your maps for you FREE.

I just plugged my 1350 in (had exact same problem) into computer and deleted the GPX (trip log) and it finally started back up. Deleted all of the favorites and such but it working again.

You will need to load the MapSource software on your PC then load the maps into MapSource. After the maps are loaded and unlocked you can plug your GPS into your PC with the USB cable and load the maps.

I too had this problem with the Nuvi 260w. I tried loading the new 2010 map software two times with the same result. Those two times, I walked away from the computer while it was installing the new maps the GPS, and returned later to find the installation window gone. So I thought it had completed, but got the same "No Detailed Maps Found" message.

The third (and successful) time, I stayed at the computer the whole time. I didn't sit and watch the progress bar the whole time, but did other stuff on the computer, and returned to the status window every so often. It completed to 100% and at the end it indicated to click on the Finish button - this notice was not there the previous two times when I left it alone. I then unplugged the Nuvi and all was fine, the new map loaded, and all worked well.

So I'm thinking that the status window probably needs some type of activity on the computer to stay alive. I also noticed that the previous two times, the img file was smaller than the third time, so the installation to the GPS did not complete the first two times.

I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

Have you tried a software upgrade. Talk to Garmin, they were pretty helpful when I talked to them.

My Garmin 660 after going thru the initial start up of "loading map" it will just SHUTDOWN. I have tried to clear the data in the diagnostic menu as recomendated by Garmin support to no avail. At the start, the trouble is it will just stay in the loading map stage. Then later it begin to shutdown.
