Usually answered in minutes!
that 10 year old rtc coin cell is bad, replace it
F2 must work and F12 , F12 diagnostics must pass to replace any HDD or load any OS on earth.
F12 is dell sorry but F12 in dells have diagnostics not idea me how any acer made does DIAGNOSITICS
but that does not dissuade me i run my own, (smart tests first hdd)
the coin cell on many of these pigs is not normal like 99% of all PCs use. IT"S RECHARGEABLE.
no not at all, and hard to get to. (back side of the moon deal)
HDD must be good and RTC not bad or only discharged.
the acer real forum guy said 40 screws out to get to it. (COIN REAR)
here it is , under the black square here, look there, read the words on the battery and now we can tell you what is it really is. (logo name and number on the cell casing) tell me and we can match it up.
rule #1 on this mobo, is charge the coin cell AC cord attached, PC on for 12 hours.
we do that in the wild hope (and in the manual) that he RTC battery might still hold a charge 10 years old
hope , can win but it really has no future at all this old and a real tech gets it the H3LL out of there,
avoiding COMEBACKS.
acer manual do stink on this PC, a lame have attempt and mix of many series models in one manual
buy DELL WIN! Acer has the worst docs in the business, avoid it and PB and Gateway too. (all them)
if the battery fails , it sure can lie to you and ask for PW, sure can.
why well when it dies (coin)
the NVRAM scrambles up AND the
BIOS CONFIG are LOST
and DATE. lost.
and TIME in the RTC. chip sections of the same NVRAM
that is what it does, and the results are CHAOS.
that type of CHAOA can even cause this to happen super easy and super common PCs over 5years old
1: PC dead, (screen or monitors dead, due to zero video out of PC) PC thinks its being hacked. (coin *****)
2: pc THINKS PASSWORDS ARE SET (BIOS) AND WERE NEVER EVER SET BY ANY ONE ON EARTH.
3: CAN'T HOLD TIME AND DATE. ! for sure after pulling AC cord from WALL
4: BOOT ORDER IN BIOS IS ALL WRONG AND CHANGE EVERY TIME I PULL THE AC CORD AND PUT IT BACK.
5: there are 128bits in NVRAM to go wrong, I will never list them all, that be OVER THE TOP.
nicer PCs, rear now, sadly only show this in the screens
CMOS NVRAM checkup failures or CRC erros. bingo coin dead.
on DELL PC , not yours we go to F2 page, and click logs and the error may be there, coin *****.
I am trying to format my hard drive and put a fresh version of windows 10 on my computer.
WAS PC DEAD BEFORE THIS? OR HAD PW SET IN BIOS ? (at GET GO)?
NO REASON STATED FOR FORMATTING THE PC.? was w7 before and w17 ran ok?????????????
IN SHOP WE TEST THE HDD FIRST FULLY AS NO OS ON EARTH RUNS ON ANY BAD HDD (FULL STOP)
NO PC ON EARTH RUNS RIGHT RTC BATTERY DEAD, IT MUST BE REPLACED AT 7 YEAR MARK !
YOUR'S IS 3 YEARS OVER THE LINE. (INTEL SPEC, AGE MAX COIN)
All i get is "an operating system wasn't found" &"try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating"system.
I GUESS YOU HAVE THE NEWEST W10 IN USB STICK , FROM MICROSOFT. AND BOOT THAT?
AND GET HOW FAR IN TO THE INSTALL (2 BOOTS DEEP?)
THAT ERROR MEANS TO REMOVE THE uSB STICK FROM THE USB SLOT AS W10 FINISHES ROUND 1 OF THE INSTALL, AND THEN SAYS REBOOTING (ROUND 2) AND YOU FORGET TO REMOVE THE USB STICK.
IF YOU DO THAT WRONG , LEAVE IT IN , YOU GET STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP OF ROUND 1 INSTALL.
IF THE HDD IS BAD AS MOST ARE 10 YEARS OLD THEN ROUND 1 OR 2 CAN NEVER WORK. EVER.
WHY NOT UPGRADE THE PC TO SSD FIRST THEN USE W10 INSTALL ON IT.???
I have donE f12 and it asks for a password . (THAT IS NEVER GOOD TO SEE,)
ANY PC WITH BIOS PASS WORD SET EVEN BLOCKS F2 AND f12.
never try to service any PC with F2 and F12 blocked by BIOS admin passwords
or you will go nowhere, fast.
also learn that BIOS PW can lie to you , if the RTC coin cell fails, the BIOS will go mad (chaos)
that means even lies about PW that you never set.
before working on any pC we test the hdd. (F12 diag)
the we make sure bios settings are correct
first IS F2, F2 pages shows time and date if wrong the RTC coin cell is dead, and must be replaced.
The next thing is turn off PXE ,(in NIC page and in boot order)
then on the boot order page, use HDD0 first or SSD0 first in the list, make it first only.
then to boot the USB stick use F12 , pick USB win10 install stick
now on the 2nd boot the PC does NOT MESS UP and boot loop usb1 stick endless. or remove it now.
ill answer in CAPS IN= LINE.
F12 diag was first.
then F2 second to see if date is wrong, (RTC time) and date.
just 2 steps not just throw w10 at it.
I do not have your full service tag information (s/n I do not need <"serial"
this tells me what mobo is really there, inside;
hint1, they are not the same on all Z5700 sold on earth. sorry ?
some mobo Z5700, have a vary hard to find and source solder down (no jack) coin cell battery.
NiMH or LION type only reading the coins words and number is the only clue.
and a pain to reach
and is covered that in youtube all steps to pain and gain access to that dang coin.
also , if the coin is still good , it needs a 12 your charge first. did you? the manual tells that
they love to self discharge, so.... charge it. ( the coin cell that is)
plug it into the wall and hope it charges up. then see if F2 works and time and date hold.
remove the power cord, for 1 hours. and put back and F2 the lil;' acer pig and see if it still holds date and time on the F2 page, if not the COIN IS BAD.
coin means RTC CMOS NVram coin cell battery of any kind seen there. (see photos above)
it is NOT optional ever. and must be good. and charged.
this not desktop but is in fact a AIO, PC, all in one, fake desktops as I call them and lots of none standard parts inside, making service, a pain.
here are the macro steps to that end. (answering for USA PCs and nobody else)
1: ;make sure acer supports w10 in this PC, did you, ? as it for sure does not support w10 only w7 alone.
2: next is that F12 error. show stopper big time #2, the RTC coin cell must not be dead, is next.
3: in the same Vein, RTC good there must not be F12 bios passwords asked, if yes, how can you service any machine lacking that super important thing, you can not. but the RTC dead can in fact make fake password
requests, pop up, and that is why #2 is there. RTC coin cell dead is FULL STOP, fix that first.
4: if you get this far , you then go in to BIOS and make sure all settings are good or reset bios in page
one called reset bios to factory defaults, RTC coin is dead this step fails endless. again.
5: make sure hdd tests pass, (ask) make sure the BIOS boot order has HDD0 first. boot first HDD0
6: then boot the USB w10 install stick, at end of phase one remove the usb stick now and reboot.
7: the os finishs up and works, but only if that old HDD is good and most are not., we test them.
NO w10 read it.
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/su...
that last driver was in year 2010. 11 long long years ago, back in w7 days,
did you find this in a garage sale for $1
or it ran for 11 years and and then one day fake passwords show up?
we can not guess what you did to any PC for 11 years, only you know that.
for sure turn off any BIOS passwords first, to load any OS, or you will have a hard time.
there are 11 drivers for w7 , and many will not work in w10, no harm trying but it will fail.
if it does install (it will try hard) then you will see many things failing in device manager.
some can be dealt with , some can not.
if the HDD is bad, no OS on earth ever runs on any BAD HDD or one that fails the SMART test , ask.
photos are rare, and the book lies, big time at acer.com it mixes laptop facts with AIO.
one guy are there form said (rear of mobo) to pull this tape off coin.
he found a CR2032. and in a socket.
only looking tells the truth, not one photo can i find but this I made.
i use photo shop to make it more clear. (contrast and edge enchance.)
see it?
if below 2.9vdc, the battery IS NO GOOD. Lithium non rechargeable.
the 7500 laptop that the derps there at acer mixed in uses a coin that is rechargeable.
7500 NO Z prefix.
20 to 40 screws out, bingo. and thermal paste lost.
here is the actual quote
"searched the world for info, all useless. then decided to try myself. hear me clear, it is a normal button CR2032 litium, at the back of motherboard, very easy to replace after taking the effort to open the whole set.
Lament on Acer's poor support/info, and foremost the weird design. Perhaps it is designed not for lasting and disposal after a few years of service. Except the screen, everything is fine still, esp. when adding an SSD. "
OP
the other shoe drops
gee did the PW just show up one day' OUT OF THE BLUE?
or did you buy it this way.?
or the first time ever to use BIOS in 10 years.
wow.
learn that any PC over 5 years old needs the battery checked
H3LL the ACER manual states 1 year old if BIOS acts funny or lies or fails to store settings or time and date are wrong, tells that in the manual. clear as day and is 100% A+ correct answer. on all PCs. (not macs I do not do macs)
photo 2, zoomed then now inverted and Photo shop tweeked, fun stuff , kinda CSI stuff
i can even see air pockets and even a socket I think, yah fun.
YBMV, your battery may vary sold to any country on earth, above is USA
I presume that tape can suck up acid when it leaks. (no holder needs tape to work)
too bad , acer.com has no real service manuals like DELL has, and Dell has their own take down videos
dell moves forward on quality.
