I was transferring a design from my laptop to the machine via the serial port suddenly the machine turn off. I even plugged it into different outlets hoping for something to work and it didn't. How do i solve this?
Testimonial: "Thanks so much for your advice on restarting the machine but it doesn't work. Perhaps it's about the fuse so I'm going to take it to the Bernina machine repair shop"
Thanks for your advice. I've brought the machine to the shop for repair and they have examined the machine and it seems that the problem is with the s-printThanks for your advice. Yes that's the best course of action. Get them to clean and check the timing at the same time.Yes that's the best course of action. Get them to clean and check the timing at the same time.
It is an expensive board if it needs replacing, so it is better that they diagnose and replace it. I am pleased that it is getting fixed. Thanks for the feedback :>) https://www.drdanessmh.com/berninahelect...

Did it ever work ? Have you had the firmware updated in the machine - if-so, the V4.04 firmware will not communicate with a V3 embroidery unit and you'll have to get them updated to the same version. Failing that, I'm afraid one of them has a fault on the serial interface. Note also that a 165 sewing machine will not work with a 180/185 embroidery unit because the earlier unit has a 2MB memory internally, whereas the later unit has a plug-in 4MB memory.
Try changing to a different COM port and make sure you haven't got any other applications running that might be using the serial port, even if you've nothing connected ... have you recently installed something that might be using the COM port ?
Use the free Artlink software from Bernina. The cconnector... use a USB to Serial port converter cable. Best Buy has them *Dynex brand). Worked for me on an Artista 180.
Just use the free download software from Bernina called Artlink. I used it along with a USB to Serial converter cable to connect to the machine. Works wonderfully. Allows me to still use my old Artista designer software if I want to on an older machine and then when I want to actually transfer the designs I use the laptop with the USB cable.
How did you try to transfer the ART design to your 180? It needs Artlink by Bernina to do so or the Bernina Designer program. There are different ART versions and as I know, only the Designer can convert it to the version that your model can handle. I also own some CDs and never had any problem transferring any to a Personal Design card or stitching them out with my Bernina 165.
I have the same problem...V3 software. have not heard of an adapter. The software wouldn't work with Windows XP or Vista anyway. I upgraded to Editor plus V5 but have kept my old Designer plus on an ancient laptop so I can transfer old patterns. You will also find that your new laptop doesn't have a serial port to accomodate the old cable to bernina 180. Unfortunately it's always the case with updating a PC. Everything else has to follow! My advice, get hold of an old laptop:)
Hello,
It is not true that the 180 is not compatible with new software.
I'm owning a artista 180 from 2002 and just installed the software designer V5+ on a laptop with windows vista.
The only problem was that there was no serial port on the laptop, now I have a new cable with USB ans serial output and the software works very well !!
When you contact Bernina you will get the same answer.
