SOURCE: Milwaukee Job site radio

Questions:
1. Does the AC cord look ok? Not damaged?
2. Have you tried another AC outlet?
3. Does the AC cord unplug from the radio?

When you operate the radio from the AC power cord, the radio uses an internal power supply consisting of a step-down transformer, rectifier, and filter that converts the AC to DC to operate the radio.

When you run the radio off of batteries, it powers the radio directly. In some radios, when you plug the AC cord into the radio, it activates a switch that disconnects the battery voltage to the radio so that the batteries wont be damaged from the voltage created by the internal supply.

The radio can be powered by either the batteries or the internal supply. You don't want either supply affecting the other, so that is why a switch is sometimes used.

Since the radio works fine off of batteries, that would indicate that there is a problem with the internal power supply. This could be a blown fuse, bad transformer or bad rectifier diode.

Good Luck,
- Jim

SOURCE: Battery compartment disconected by the AC adapter

That could be any number of things. Broken solder joint on the board where the battery terminals connect, dead batteries, and now that I think about it, if the connection is broken or loose in any way inside the hole where the ac adapter goes, it's not going to work with batteries. It needs that completed circuit regardless if there isn't an ac adapter inserted.

SOURCE: ibm thinkpad no power with ac power adapter but works with battery

If prior to this it works intermittently with the AC adapter, it means the connection from the adapter power unit to the motherboard was lost and this is a typical problem with the Thinkpad. It needs a re-soldering job and not something that one can do without a proper repair manual on how to open the laptop. Try googling your problem and find out if someone has the same experience and managed to resolder by him/herself.

SOURCE: ac adapter's wont charge battery or pwr. unit

I would say take to a good PC repair shop (Not Geek Squad) and ask them to look at the power jack on the motherboard, it may need replacing. Next would be more of a a motherboard problem and its just quit. Good repair shops could help you either way get it fixed. I don't recommend anyone tackling any sort of laptop motherboard fix unless you really know what your doing.

SOURCE: i had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

RF Remote for RT-7690-2 Unit will not respond to either the horizontal or verical Buttons and keeps beeping and the arrow flashing in the horizontal mode.

I've never come across that with mine, but I have a couple thoughts that you might try ........

First, check and make sure there are no buttons stuck down. And the second thing is take the battery out for a minute or so and see if it clears it. In fact, you might also want to check the battery voltage. I suppose there's a chance that low voltage could do that??

Hope one of those helps!

My Zoom H4 will no longer run with batteries. If I use AC adaptor it works fine but I get nothing on battery power

Probably the connector where you plug the AC adapter into has a switch contact that disconnects the battery when external adapter is used and it has gotten bent so when the adapter is not plugged in, it no longer makes contact to the battery power. This is pretty common for devices that use both battery and adapters.

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad

Toshiba satelite A100 rejects AC... often.

Just to humor me, are you using any peripherals with your laptop when this happens, such as a wireless mouse, USB connections such as digital cameras? Try to take these away when recharging.

There seems to be 2 issues here.
1) Recharing batteries: To prepare the batteries for long-term use (I do not know how long you've had the batteries...try draining the batteries (both of them), and then recharging it to full 2x before using them without the AC Adapter. This should clear the problem.

2) AC Adapter only works every other day: When you swapped the power pack, was it with a new AC adapter, or another used one? Also, have you tried using a different outlet than the one you normally use? Let me know how this turns out.

Broke

While you say the battery is OK you do not say how you know that. Most camcorders can be run off the AC adapter. If this is the case plug your AC adapter in to the mains and check the output with a DMM on VDC for the proper output. If you don't have a meter you could borrow one from a friend or buy one. They are fairly inexpensive now and even a cheap one is good enough for this job. Besides, they are handy for a lot of other duties. Read the instructions but basically set to Volts DC, 20 volt scale and place red wire on the inside of the power plug (which connects to the camera) and the black wire to the outside of the barrel. If you have the correct voltage (it is listed on the data plate of the power supply)you are probably OK. On occasion I have seen units check correct for voltage, but when hooked up the voltage drops. This is rare. and If you have the correct voltage your unit is probably OK. Check the voltage of the battery. If it is correct(the battery voltage is listed on it somewhere)then it is holding a charge. If both the battery and AC adapter check OK you have a problem with the camcorder. If you are handy with tools, have a set of jewelers screwdrivers (they can be purchased also and are fairly cheap), a set of magnifying glasses and lots of patience use the screwdrivers to remove the cases of the camcorder. When you get the cases off look for ribbon cables which are loose or out of their connectors. If you don't find any you probably have a problem which is beyond your repair capabilities and you will need to take it to a reputable repair facility. Good luck.
