Good morning. Last week I was cutting my yard with my Deere D140. Then I couldn't move fwd or reverse. The belt that runs from the engine to the rear wheels has no tension. Thanks in advance for any help u can provide.

Likely the belt will have no tension if the brake is on. If brake is off and no tension, check tensioning spring, see link to parts diagram.

https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/82042/referrer/navigation/pgId/320472845.

Also check the transmission "bypass rod" is pushed in.

SOURCE: Yardman Rear Tine Tiller tines won't turn. Belt

The problem lies in the shift lever in the gearbox. A poor initial design that was upgraded twice. The shift fork arms have spread enough for pins to come out of the groove they run in when the tiller is shifted to the last position. (Bending back into position would only be a temporary fix as would not be any stronger.) To replace shift lever, the gearbox cover has to be opened. Seperating the cover can be somewhat challenging. When prying cover apart try to not damage the cover gasket. Gearbox grease is very thick, so gasket's real purpose is to keep water and contaminants out. Leave all gearing and chains in place. The shift lever part number is 618-0245B. Or use assembly kit number 753-0869 (contains shift lever 618-0245B, position indicator, and roll pin.) Part will run in the $56-$68 range and can be found through MTD as well as Cub Cadet. Also can get through Sears PartsDirect.

SOURCE: lawnmower wont move in fwd or reverse

Is the brake sticking. On my craftsman mower there is a bar under the brake pedal that pushes back a lever when starting. And the lever sticks. I have to reach underneath and pull the lever forward and then the mower goes. I haven't found a solution to that yet.

John Deere L107 ride on mower. Hydraulic transmission.Forward movement just stopped while was cutting grass. No forward or reverse. What belt that drives transmission called. What/how to check.

The belt that allows the tractor to move foward or reverse is called the "Drive Belt". Some of the packaging for the belts can be misleading...such as the belt that engages the blades is typically called "Deck Drive Belt". In my opinion, if you dont mind spending a few extra dollars is to purchase an all kevlar drive belt as they last longer than the typical polyester rubber belts.
Hope this helps

GOOD MORNING, I HAVE A D140 JOHN DEERE LAWN MOW,IT RUN WELL WHEN NOT MOWING BUT WHEN ENGAGED IT SLOW DOWN AS THOUGH IT HAS TO CATCH IT'S BREATH LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD

Make sure there isn't anything binding the deck belt or blades. Check the spindles for free movenent. If all that is good then it might be the linkage that is supposed to adjust the throttle when the engine is under load or it might be a carb issue...especially if you run ethanol gas in it.

How to adjust tension on belt of John Deere Ride On D140

How to adjusted Cutting Deck Belt Tension

You do not say which size cutting deck you have. I will be writing about the 48", 3 blade cutting deck

The belt on this deck is self tensioned. The tension is provided by a spring attached to a moveable pulley on the deck. When the belt is in place you can manually force this pulley forward/backward and it will release the tension.

If the belt is off track, place the belt back around all the pulleys in the correct path, lastly force this spring loaded pulley forward/backward (depending on your deck, the direction is not important, the tension is) to get the belt around the pulley. If the belt is placed correctly, when you release the spring loaded pulley it will properly tension the belt.

Typically, these belts should not be jumping off. If yours is coming off frequently the belt may be worn. When they wear they get quite a bit longer, then the tension pulley cannot apply the correct tension. Rarely does the tension spring have to be replaced.

The other problem that causes belt jumping is worn spindles and stationary pulleys. The spindles are the most likely to need replacement. You can buy excellent replacements for JD spindles on Amazon for very reasonable prices. The following spindles are super replacement spindles for the 48" deck. They may very well be the same for smaller and larger decks; I have not researched that. Just search Amazon for Silver Streak # 285851.
