My dynex tv keeps coming on and off with a black screen and please wait will flash and the sound goes on and off too. The volume and the sound can not be adjusted using the buttons on the side of the unit and remote doesn't work either. What could the problem be ? Is the tv worth getting repaired? Should I inquire about purchasing a new one? Some sound comes thru but only for short short periods. I have tried the 4 hrs hard charge and no positive results. TV is about 11 or 12 years old.

The Sony diagnostic routine for 4 blinks indicates it to be a vertical deflection problem.

Did you see a solid horizontal line in the center of the screen prior to it going out? If so, that is a tell tale sign for vertical problems.

The STANDBY light will flash if the television detects an issue within the television. Some of these issues can be resolved simply by following the steps below to reset the television.

1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
   
2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
   
5. Turn on the television.

Hi -

I had the exact same problem recently with my SONY Trinitron 27 inch TV! After trying everything, I found that pushing the Up and Down volume controls on the TV panel (ie NOT on the remote) at the same time, the problem went away. I hope that this helps!

most likly its your lamp you just need to get a new one off the internet or you can bring it to a repair shop and they will be able to replace it for alittle bit more then the lamp itself will cost

I will try replacing both y and z sus boards very common but also very expensive so prob keep checking on ebay.Also check the buffer boards
