Do a simulated-battery-disconnect reset. This is a harder reset then the hard reset. It will simulate disconnecting the battery at a hardware level, so it will completely toast anything on your treo that might be causing the problem. Don't worry it won't hurt your firmware or anything, just all the data will go.

Hold down the BACKSPACE key, and the K key.
While holding it, press and hold the reset button using the reset tool on the stylus.
Hold all three for a few seconds. The treo should turn white, then turn off. If it won't come back on, then you've succeeded.

To get the treo to turn back on, plug it into the charger cable. In a few moments the treo will turn back on, and ask you for your language and regional settings, just like when you first bought it.

If this doesn't fix it, you have a hardware or firmware problem that will be far more difficult to diagnose/fix.

Palm Treo 700W Smartphone is stuck on speaker phone

Hello,

Soft Reset
A Soft Reset stops all active (or open) programs and "reboots" the handheld. When the Treo powers back up, you'll start with all programs closed and the unit will be ready to use. The soft reset is intended to reset the Treo if it is malfunctioning or has become bogged down.
The Palm Treo 750 can be soft reset by quickly pressing and releasing the tiny red button beneath the miniSD memory card door:
diagram.jpg Hard Reset
A Hard Reset wipes the internal memory and returns the Treo to its factory specs, in effect returning the Treo 750 to the state it was in when you purchased it. All data entered, preferences set or software installed on the Treo after purchase will be lost after a hard reset and will have to transferred or reinstalled via ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center.
power_button.jpg The Palm Treo 750 can be hard reset by pressing and holding the power button (seen left) while at the same time pressing and holding reset button beneath the miniSD memory card door. Press and hold the two buttons until the screen completely fades. When the screen returns, you'll be given the option to "Erase all data." Select Yes to complete the hard reset. The Treo will now be as it was when it left the factory and you can start fresh. You may have to perform a soft reset after the hard reset to get the unit to power on.

HOW TO PERFORM A HARD RESET ON Treo 650

Performing a hard reset on a Treo 650will erase everything on the smartphone. Most people do this because of trouble with the Treo 650's software. There are several key stages to performing a hard reset. Follow these steps to learn how to do it properly.
  1. HotSync the Treo 650 to your computer to ensure that you have all of your information backed up. You will lose everything on your Treo 650 with a hard reset.
  2. Step 2 Press and hold down the red phone key on the right side of the Treo 650 keyboard until the Palm screen appears. This will begin the hard reset.
  3. Step 3 Let go of the red phone button when you see the Palm screen.
  4. Step 4 Read the screen prompt carefully. It will ask you to press the up arrow key to proceed with the hard reset or the down arrow key to abort. Press the up arrow to continue with the hard reset.
  5. Step 5 Wait for the phone to reboot. When it comes back on, it will ask you to select a language and walk you through the same introductory screens you saw when you first got the phone.
  6. Step 6 HotSync your Treo 650 to your computer. When prompted, select your old username to restore all of your contacts and information. This should complete the hard reset process.

Hi elg

There are many ways to reset your Treo, here are some from Treo KB themselves...

# How do I perform a hard reset on the Palm Treo 600?

Warning: A hard reset will erase everything on your device. All your data will be removed, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings. Don't perform a hard reset unless you've backed up your data, or you're willing to lose everything.

HotSync note: Some third-party applications change the way your handheld backs up data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.

1. Hold down the power (on/off) button on your device.
2. While holding down the power button, turn over your device so that you can see the back of it.
Using an unfolded paper clip or a similar small object, gently press the RESET hole on the back
3. When the device's screen displays the Palm Computing Platform logo, release the power button.
4. A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld.
In response, do one of the following:
* Press the UP button to complete the hard reset, erasing everything on your device
or
* Press any other button to begin a soft reset, leaving your data intact.
5. Your device will then take you through a series of screens to calibrate the digitizer and verify the time and date.

Note: A hard reset does not reset the current date and time. It does restore other settings to the factory default.

# How do I recover after a hard reset?

If you backed up your data by synchronizing it to your desktop computer, you can restore it now by performing a HotSync operation.

1. Since all data was erased by the hard reset, first synchronize your device with your desktop computer.
1. Make sure your conduits are turned to "Synchronize the files" or "Desktop overwrites handheld". Do not turn conduits to "handheld overwrites desktop". This will erase data on your desktop computer, and you won't be able to transfer it to your handheld.

Note: Data restoration may take some time. The HotSync operation will be faster with a USB connection, slower with a serial or IR connection. You won't be able to perform a network HotSync connection until you have performed at least one successful 'local' HotSync via USB, Serial or IR.
Re-install third-party software, if any.
2. Third-party software (applications, hacks, themes, games, databases, eBooks, etc.) might not have transferred back to your handheld during a HotSync operation. Locate any missing original .prc or .pdb files on your desktop computer, and double-click the files to re-install them. For more information on how to install third-party software, visit the Palm Support Knowledge Library.

Caution: Sometimes, the reason you needed to perform a hard reset was because of third-party software. While we encourage users to take advantage of the thousands of third-party titles available, we cannot guarantee that the third-party software will be compatible. If you recently installed software and then experienced a problem, maybe you should not re-install that software. For more information on how to diagnose third-party issues, visit the Palm Support Knowledge Library.
Re-set your preferences.
3. The System conduit restores your preferences for display, menus, auto-off, and other functions. However, if there are other preferences (such as those set within third-party themes) that haven't been restored, now is the time to do so manually. Refer to the third-party software documentation for instructions.

# How do I perform a Battery Disconnect Reset?

A battery disconnect reset is a last resort step you can take to cut battery power, wipe out all data, and bring a Palm Treo 600 back to its factory-fresh state.

A battery disconnect reset will erase everything on your device, and also reset the wireless radio and disconnect the internal battery. All your data will be removed, and your formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings. Don't perform a battery disconnect reset unless you've backed up your data, or you're willing to lose everything.

Additionally, you won't be able to turn your Palm Treo 600 back on until you connect it to a power adapter, so do not perform this type of reset if you're not near a power source and your Palm Treo 600 charger.

HotSync note: Some third-party applications change the way your handheld backs up data, while other third-party applications do not back up data at all. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.

1. Disconnect your Palm Treo 600 from the AC charger.
2. Hold down the K and Backspace keys simultaneously.
3. While continuing to hold down the K and Backspace keys, press the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your device.
* Note: Palm made this type of reset very awkward to perform, so that it would not happen by accident when your Palm Treo 600 is jostling around in a pocket or bag. Sorry for the inconvenience. You might want to enlist the help of a dexterous friend if you find it too difficult.
4. Continue holding down K and Backspace. The screen will flash white briefly, and then go black. Release K and Backspace after this happens.
5. To revive your Palm Treo 600, connect it to the AC charger and plug the charger into a socket. The screen will stay blank for several seconds (as long as half a minute), then it will turn on. The LED will glow solid red, indicating charging.
6. Finally, follow the steps for recovering after a hard reset (a battery disconnect reset is a type of hard reset).

Palm treo 600

It sounds like you have a bad battery initially, but your other issues may point to a software issue or something else. Have you tried a hard reset or updating the firmware on your palm? You can go to the Palm website and click on support and then choose the TREO 600 and the provider (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc) to get the firmware updater. You will also find a User's Guide with instructions on how to hard reset the device. These two options may help you with your problem.

You want to perform what is called a "Hard Reset"

It's pretty easy. You hold the power button while you push the reset button on the back. The treo will ask you if you want to erase all the data.

  • Unscrew the tip from your stylus
  • Locate the "RESET" hole on the back of your Treo 600
  • Press and hold the power button on the top of your Treo and then press the reset button with the stylus pin
  • Remove the pin from the reset hole FIRST, hold both for a few seconds, and then release the power button.
  • The screen will say "erase all data?", tap the up arrow to answer yes
