SOURCE: 4 1/2 quart kitchenaid mixer head jumps when mixing

Adjusting the screw didn't work for me the first time I tried it.  I was afraid of loosening the screw too much, and so I didn't turn it far enough.  Turning the screw counter-clockwise until it stuck out several millimeters finally worked.

SOURCE: My mixer sounds like it

Hello there,
It is the same problem when you mixed bagel dough in it. The problem is that the motor needs lubrication. Moving parts require lubrication for maximum performance. There is a plastic gear inside the unit, if it is getting shredded it will begin to get stuck and strain before it will be able to mix a dough smoothly.
The plastic gear is meant to self destruct with time so as to save the motor from getting bad, so it is the plastic gear that need to be replaced in the kitchenaid mixer and if you intend to fix this yourself. Here are what you need to start the job and the steps it take to take it apart.

Where do I drain the oil in a 60qt. thunderbird mixer

If you are referring to the transmission, I believe it's a sealed unit.

  • 3-Speed gear box
  • Transmission: Wide-faced, hardened alloy steel, helical gears fully sealed in transmission lubricant with heavy-duty ball bearings and clutch combine for highly dependable, quiet operation.

Hobart a200 first gear not working

slacken the big acorn nut away from the bottom of the planetary and then tighten the lock nut to the acorn nut. When adjusted and secured, the planetary should have a little vertical play, maybe 1/16".
That will stop the second gear driving from friction from being too tight.

Wont mix motor euns beater skips

This will be caused by a stripped gear. However there are several gears that may have stripped and you will need to take the mixer apart and inspect the gears.
I would need the model number of your mixer to determine what parts you would need.

Hobart Mixer D300, When mixing mashed potatoes paddle will only turn in low gear. When product is mashed with milk added it sometimes will turn in 2nd gear, but never in top. When this happens, motor is...

Sounds like the keys in the shifting sleeve may be sheared. The transmission will have to be disassembled and checked for broken parts. Check www.hobartservice.com for your local Hobart office.

Professional 600 - makes loud noise when mixing, often stops as it blends 8 cups of bread flour and "needs a break", flat beater seems to get caught on bottom of bowl - this mixer is 1 yr. old!!

    Several things:

The Professional 600 has a metal gear housing with a metal gearing. Because of this, the Professional 600 will generally run louder than other stand mixers that may have a nylon/metal mesh gearing.

How long is the bread dough being mixed for? Kitchenaid stand mixers must be used on speed 2 for bread doughs, using the spiral shaped dough hook, and mixing for no longer than 7 minutes.

If the flat beater is getting caught on the bottom of the bowl, pleasure assure the bowl is being seated correctly. You will place the bowl on the mixer arms on the left and right hand side. You will also want to take your fingers along the back of the bowl, where it butts up against the base of the mixer, and press downward. You will hear an audible click as the bowl falls into a spring latch and allows the bowl to sit flush and secure. If this is not being done, the flat beater may strike the bottom of the bowl.

If this was not the cause of the problem, please consult your Use and Care Guide about the beater to bowl adjustment. This is an easy adjustment made with a flat head screwdriver that can quickly correct the problem of a flat beater hitting the bottom of the bowl.

    KitchenAid wobbles when mixing

The "wobbling" sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.

If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.

Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.

Also, leaking of oil in a stand mixer is not necessarily indicative of a large problem.

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.

KitchenAid Artisan 10 speed 325Watt Mixer

Hi, The KitchenAid mixers are usually quite easy to work on if you are competent at DIY. It sounds like a gearbox fault. Gearbox parts are easy obtained for most of the models and are easy to repair.

This is a service manual for a lot of the KitchenAid mixers. Might give you an idea on how difficult it is to work on before taking the plunge.

    Hope this helps

Mixers eating brass gear driven by motor pinon

Thats called a sacraficial gear because its brass which is a soft metal. This gear takes most of the strain but i think either a spacer is missing or the gears arent meshing correctly. The transmission assembly the shaft next to it make sure all the spacers/washers are there.Goto hobartcorp.com you will find an exploded parts breakdown.
