SOURCE: Eumig 822 sonomatic 8mm dual guage cine projector.

I have a Eumig 824 Sonomatic that needs repair to the claw mechanism, new rotary switch control knob and front sprocket for Super8 mm. Can this repair be effected by you.

Will an 8mm movie projector be able to use 8mm super film?

Not without major adaptations.

The sprocket sizes and spacing are different as are the actual frame sizes. A dual standard projector used to exist which came with the necessary kit to convert between the two different standards but wasn't popular as users tended to shoot on one or the other so didn't want to pay the high premium for a dual format projector. The dual format projector was also a lot less reliable if it was used as intended with regular component swapping. There's also the matter of 8mm being a spool based system and super 8 being a cartridge loading system.

In summary, use the correct projector to match the film you wish to display. Both types are usually easy to get for free on local FreeCycle and Freegle groups.
