Take off the control panel. There is a little plastic arm behind the start button that may be worn down on the end and may not be making contact with the electronic button underneath.
To access the control panel on the WD14700RD:

Disconnect the unit from power and water
Remove the top: take off two screws at the back, push it backwards one inch and lift it off
Take out the soap tray and remove two screws on the soap tray compartment.
Remove the control panel: push down on the two arms on top of it so that it can pop out, and pull it out at the top and then lift it off the bottom hooks. Pull it out a little from the machine, about an inch.
Remove the front plate from the control panel: there are 7 screws behind it. Rotate the control panel up or down in order to access the screws behind
Now that the front plate of the control panel is loose, identify the arm of the button that has stopped working. Wrap a small amount (2-3 times around) of electrical or plumbers tape on the very end of the plastic arm. Or if there is a nib instead of an arm, a small dab of epoxy resin allowed to harden does the trick.
Refit the control panel and test the button now works.
Reassemble the control panel, top, and turn on water and power.
Test once again.

And that's it! All you need is a screwdriver and some tape. Too easy. Hope the information helps out.

The method we use on our LG WF 8071TTP top-loader:

Load stuff to be soaked.
Add soap.
Set load size and water inlets.
Start wash cycle.
Wait until water is full, and begins washing.
Press Start/Pause button.
Press Auto Stop button to switch machine off.

Next morning:
Press Auto Stop button to switch machine on.
Press Start/Pause button.
The fuzzy logic (if machine has this) will register that machine is full, and washing will continue.

On some models if you hold in the spin and temp buttons together at the same time and while holding in, you depress the power button then the machine will go into test mode. Each subsequent push of the start button will go to the next test item, ie, spin, water fill, drain, etc. Might give it a try. Good luck.

You can program a Spin only cycle with the FH4U2VCN2. Press the Power button to turn on the machine. Press Spin as needed to select the RPM for spinning the washer drum. Press the Start/Pause button. Won't dry? I guess you mean spin enough water out? Depending on age, warranty, It sounds like a worn or bad drive belt or possibly a problem with the discharge pump not working properly.

Start/pause button is not working on my LG washing machine. All other buttons are working fine?

Problem maybe that the START/PAUSE button has broken loose from the control panel. All the buttons are attached to control panel and "hinged" so when you press the button, the button presses a small button switch on the display control. You may have to order
the Control Panel.. Disassembly is required to inspect.
It would be least likely that the Display PCB is bad..

LG Dryer model DLE2516w; powers on just fine, can select a drying mode with the dial, but it won't respond when pressing the start/pause button.

Door switch or thermal fuse most likely.

When pressing start on my frigidaire washer LTT2940FE1, It says pause and won't start.

Reset the unit at the household circuit breaker and retry. PAU means the unit is paused either by a blockage and the sensor won't let the unit continue, or it was manually paused by a button press.
