Make sure tv on tv air then channel search possible antenna not connected

You most likely have the SAP
mode activated. Look for a button on your remote or an item in the on-screen menus of your television called MTS or SAP. You want to set this to "Main" "Normal" or "Stereo" (or even "Mono") mode to hear the regular television sound.
If it is in SAP (Secondary Audio Program) mode, as I believe yours is, you may hear no sound or a different audio program. Often this is a translation to another language, such as Spanish, and other times (notably with PBS stations) it is an unrelated audio (often music) feed. On some stations there may be no sound at all with the audio mode set to SAP.

We have a pretty good signal when we use the antenna but when we hook up the converter box we get no channel weak signal no channels we have a amplipher on it it does not help .

you should go into your tv's setup menu and go to the tuner settings and make sure it is set to CATV (cable tv) and not Antenna/Air also splitting a cable to many times can cause the signal to weaken and gain a lot of noise/distortion that could be an issue that can only be solved by having the company come to the house and do a test ALSO when your in the tuner menu in under your tv's setup menu try adding a non local channel manualy and then see if the tv will tune to it, if so then you might have to add them manually at the worst... my guess is that it is not set to CATV/cable tv hope this helps and if not i hope someone else can.
