You can test the element which is the most likely failure, but you need a multimeter set to ohms (resistance). An element is a coil that resists electricity and heats up. You disconnect the leads to the heater element and it should show resistance, movement on the dial or a figure on a digital multimeter. If the element has failed, there will be no reading at all.
If it worked before, it will be probably be worth fixing, but don't just blindly buy parts in the HOPE it might fix it. Diagnose and replace, or call a service tech.

SOURCE: Dishwasher Heating element not working
my wife shut the water off to the dishwasher and forgot to turn it back on and then used the dishwasher.
the heating element went on but there was nop water.
when we turned the water back on,the drying cycle does not work.i would think that the element needs to be changed or is there a relay on the computer board?
this is a two year old Jennair unit.
any suggestions?

Just fitted on of these & found the door very easy to fit.
The instruction sheet is actually a template as well. Attach it to the back of the door & where indicated drill 2mmø holes to a depth of 14mm. Firstly then screw in the 2no. screws that go into the door slots, the actual screws are easy to spot as the screw thread finishes approx 5mm from the head.
Once that is done you need to offer the door to the front of the dishwasher & slot it into place. Once done you have to fix the door in place with the 6no. longer screws. To do this you must remove 4no of the screws which are holding the front of the dishwasher together, the other 2 screws go through empty positions at the bottom of the dishwasher door.
To help with this process I would recommend you use a soft jawed clamp to hold the door in place whilst you screw it in place.
There are also 2no. angle brackets that fit into 2 slots on the top of the dishwasher which are then used to hold the dishwasher in place under the work top.
Hope this helps.
p.s. one last thing, the thin strip of steel that comes with the kit fits onto the underside of the worktop in the position shown, I believe this is a steam deflector to protect the underside of the worktop

Remove the controller from the top of the door. Extract the main PCB from the plastic case. You will probably see a burn mark on the inside of the case adjacent to the relay on the back of the PCB. Examine the back of the PCB for burn marks around the relay pins. Resolder the relay and any damaged track.

I had this same problem on our AEG dishwasher. The reason was on the controller board. There is one relay switch which drives the heater element. One of the legs of that relay box was disconnecteds from the circuitboard. Check this out.

I should have said that this was a brand new dishwasher, but bought from an after sales supplier. So there is no warranty. It worked fine for 2 weeks only!!!
Ok, so I have tested the continuity of the water heater and it reads 29.5 ohms, so all good there. However, I cannot find the relay or main pc. There is a user interface board with no relay on it. I would appreciate if someone could help me locate it as I am all out of ideas. Thanks
