The Tank that the relay connects to has 3 pins and one of the top two pins melted and broke off do I need a new tank. Is this tank the compressor or condenser? This on a Whirlpool Side by Side Fridge

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Your problem is not your thermostat. In some models the compressor knocks out the overload relay. They relay could last a few seconds or a few weeks before the compressor knocks it out again. This is especially turn with the LG units.

You will need a multi-meter to check your compressor.

1.) Unplug your unit. Remove the bottom back cover.

2.) Remove the overload components to expose the 3 pins on the compressor.

3.) Inspect the pins on the compressor. Are they clean or are they damaged from heat (Steel melting).

4.) With your multi-meter, set the meter on the lowest Ohms. Read the Ohms between each of the pins. You will have 3 readings. One reading will be high and the other 2 readings will be lower. Add the 2 lower readings together. This value must equal the high reading within a few tenths.

I hope I am wrong. A new compressor depending on the model is $275-$450.00. Include a system filter for $40.00, plus new refrigerant $45.00 and the cost od an experienced technician $300.00.

The fuse is under the hood on the drivers side inner fender their is a fuse box their.If you have power their then check power at the fuel pump relay which is located in the glove box on the passenger side inside the vehicle,there is a cover in the back of glove box remove the panel and their is 3 relays their you should feel the relay clicking for about 3 seconds when you turn the key on. Check for power their if there is power their then you must check for power at the fuel pump. ZThere is a connector right on top of the fuel pump on top of the tank,you should be able to get to it from under the truck without removing the tank.The common cause on these trucks is the connector on top of the fuel pump melts and causes an intermitent problem. if you have power their for about 3-5 seconds this is OK. You must then replace the fuel pump.It is fairly easy on these trucks. Drain the fuel if you can then undue the 2 hose clamps on the filler and vent tubes,then you put a jack under the fuel tank with a piece of wood on it and remove the 2 fuel tank strap nut and bolt, lower the fuel tank and then remove the fuel line carefully do not break them they are hard plastic lines they can brake easily and be costly then remove from under the truck.Take the time to clean around the fuel sending unit and pump to prevent dirt from getting in the tank and causing lots of problems.Remove the retaining ring with a screwdriver and Hammer,and the pump assembly will pull out. Replace the pump assembly and reverse the procedure for install.They usually supply you with a new wire connector when you buy the new pump USE IT. Remeber to replace fuel filter at the same time. this is for a slightly newer year Buick regal, should be similar to what you need to do unless the car was completely overhauled in design in 2 or 3 years. Good luck!...

Generally the pump is located in the gas tank. Drain the tank, remove the straps holding it up, on the top of the tank you will see the pump wiring harness. Make sure the battery is disconnected! I think the harness and pump come out as one unit. When you replace it, you will need a new harness most likely. Have you checked the pump relay and filter? I have found over the years that the pump is fine, but the relay seems to go out alot.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. To change the pump you need to open the hatch between the rear sets. Move the carpet out of the way. A access panel is their, remove it.

Next you will see the fuel pump module top. Remove the 2 electrical connections and the 3 hoses. On my I had to squish the little clear part down at the hose end to remove the 2 bigger hose. The middle hose was just a matter of fighting with it back.

I would grap a volt meter and make sure that you have 12 volts on the GRAY wire on the 4 pin connector for 2 seconds when you turn the ignition on before you proceed.

Next remove the metal ring . You do this by taking a pry bar and pry the ring inward. The pump might be stuck down a bit, pry up on the pump hose connectors and lift the pump out.

Air continually leaking from power switch/ unloader indicates that in-tank check valve is not holding pressure. Easy to check, follow discharge hose from pump to tank. Brass valve at thank is the check valve. With air in tank and unit unpluged from outlet, remove hose from valve and check for leak, replace as needed. first you need to relive the fule system of pressure. do this by finding your fule pump relay disconecting it and start the car. it will sputer, this is reliveing fule pressure.once it stops sputering your ready to get the fule pump out. it is located in the fule tank. the tank is held on by 2 straps your going to have to take off. once you do that drop the tank and the pump will be on top of it.

The board could have simply failed. However, the compressor should be checked thoroughly before replacing it since it's pricey.
A service tech, would first test to make sure, none of the windings are grounded. This is done by removing the relay and overload mounted on the compressor, then checking each pin of the compressor to ground (bare copper tubing) with an ohm meter. Each pin should show near infinity.
Then he would connect a start cord designed specifically for compressor running, and run the compressor independent of the rest of the machine.
If it runs O.K. he would then test the overload and relay before calling the compressor O.K.

It has to be your call, as to how you want to proceed.
The price of the board being the big issue.

Hi, If the pin on the compressor is melted/broke off, the compressor is bad. If the unit is under five years old, check with whilpool and see if it still has a warrenty.

first take all the relays and capacitor off of compressor , then attach black wire with terminal on "C" terminal post usually top terminal, white wire with terminal goes on "S" terminal post on compressor, red wire with terminal goes on "R" terminal post on compressor. then take the two black wires one connects to white neutral wire and the other connects to the black power wire if tis fridge has a condensor fan then you will also need to connect it two the two black wires also thanks hope this helps

My black tank inside the condenser is broke and I would like to kmow what would be cheaper for me, to buy a new condenser or just to buy this black tank.

What do you mean by black tank, the compressor or expansion tank? If it's the compressor, then buy a new unit. Or if your doing it yourself, buy a compressor. Get two different quotes from your contractor and see what is the better deal?
