Question about Brother Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I just purchased a Brother Galaxie 131 for $15! It's in great shape, mint almost but doesn't want to run. Im very handy and know that the problem is in the cord or light/motor block. I don't really want to break the board backing on the block to open it up. Does anyone know a way inside with minimal damage? I can see that the wire's insulation is cut on both sides of it so I hope when I open it up I can see any other issues. I could also use a manual if anyone knows where to find one.

I fought with those boogers for ever but finally got them out. The do kinda screw in but its also like a rivet so it was weird. Whe i got the box open the wire was cut from ... i guess the sharp edges of it. I guess I'm not really sure how but both wires were cut where the enter the box and the switch had barely cut into the wire. So i got all that fixed up but the rivets were trashed and the Access panel now had to much clearance so doing my normal thing I panicked!! Lol, no I just got a paint stirring stick and cut it to size and vaw-la! A great machine for $15!!!

thanks for the help!! I wasn't sure where to start.

Suggest using a drill bit approximately 1/2 the diameter of the fastener head and drill out the head. Take care to start near the center of the head.

You might try a pair of vicegrips to get a hold of the head and gently twist counter clockwise to see if they might screw out, but likely they are a simple barb and will twist but not unscrew.

SOURCE: Rear Windscreen wiper not working Seat Ibiza 2003

smonahan, The rear wiper fuse is actually a circuit breaker. It will reset itself.
Your wiper arm has probably stripped were it attaches to the motor shaft. You can check by trying to move the wiper arm with your hand, if it moves back and forth, its stripped. A new wiper arm will be needed.
Try it and let me know.

SOURCE: I just purchased a 2000 VW Beetle 1.8 Turbo but,

If the light goes out after engine gets alittle warm, this is normal. Since there is no temp guage, VW uses this light to inform that the engine is cold. When that same light flashes red, it means that the coolant is low or the engine is overheating.

SOURCE: Dismount door panel. VW Polo Net

Sounds like it is a broken window regulator. You will need to remove the door panel to fix it. Mine broke and I can actually pull the window up and it will stay until the vibrations of the freeway eventually make it slide back down again (this would be a temporary fix of course). Anyways, there are a couple screws behind the door handle I believe, and then some snaps around the edges, and some clips along the window line. You should get a Bentley's manual so you know exactly how to fix the window regular.

SOURCE: 2008 Chevy Silverado 5.3 Motor Knocking Sound

Its is a common problem for these engines. There is a problem with the design of the piston where carbon causes a knocking sound, very noticeable when its colder and has been sitting. It should go away after it warms up. If it does not, then it is probably something else all together.

The only way to fix the problem if it is only knocking when its cold is to pull of the heads and soak the cylinders and piston heads in solvent.

I have a 2001 Silverado 5.3 that has been doing it since I got it, I contacted GM about it and they assured me it does NOT do any damage to the engine.

How to change Brother compal galaxie 870 sewing machine needle default that starts on the left to default to the middle

Some machines have the left setting as the default. Those machines have the bobbin case that is installed from the left side of the machine. For most purposes, this default cannot be changed to center. Machines that have the bobbin case installed from the front of the machine generally have the needle center default position. However, it appears to be a newer model machine (post 1970), so there is a good chance your machine has a needle position setting.
