no model VAIO told there are vast models
and they are NOT ALL THE SAME
NO OS told is this like XP?
most are old, and old PCs fail hard.
w key is the #1 gaming key for 'forward"
and is the first key to fail in the gamers world.
you must remove the old keyboard first.
    then use external,USB keyboard.

you need to learn that a PC can have 2 keyboards connected at the same time
    even 2 mice !
so if one sticks the other keyboard is useless ,see why see what happens yes i hope.

the old keyboard has matrix inside and is shorted, why does not matter at all after all you will not repair that. (ever try, ?) no.
we replace it. for sure laptops..!!
let me guess it is a Laptop model not told.

you can not know the old is not bad.
    unless you UNPLUG IT first.
I bet you did not. RIGHT?
OLD VAIO and no sony support for it .

look here and see how the word VAIO means so little, vast PCs, old made.
    https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4...

mostly are junk now this old
    zero value.
began in 1996 with the PCV series ?
    sold in 2014 .
    VAIO Fit and Pro lines
    now ASIA owns the name.
the sad story is here, overpriced slow PC's.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaio

NO PC model told at all 1996 to 2014
NO OS told win98 up to XP, VISTA,?
NO photo of your PC posted, wow, not that is a hard nut to crack , helpers working blind.

    SONY VAIO
1996 TO 2014 to sony sell out. series? VAIO
PCV ST SR VGX C1 MGC pcg VPC TAP 20 VGN
    U70P VCPL SVP SVT VPC
AND MORE LOTS MORE TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN AND READ THE TAG?
THE LAST ONES MADE NO BOTTOM STICKER
must go in to BIOS see name. page 1 info
ON SOME THERE IS PRODUCT NAME AND SERIES NUMBER BOTH. THERE IS NO WIKI ON MODELS,SADLY, SO digging is hard.

    one more from 2011
the bottom of a loptop tells what it is.
up to about 2014 and asia took over.

some keyboards just snap out like my HP Elite books. and 2 screws.
the keyboard is married to the top cover.(as one)
on those the the whole PC must be dismantled
if lucky there is a youtube video on that
but no PC told at all
    so NO ANSWERS how.
sony sold service manuals at high prices. no wonder they failed.
sold 3 times, this name VAIO.

Unplug the keyboard from the mother board, re boot and try with a different keyboard.
Probable liquid damage to the key switches.

that is correct the old keyboard is bad.
not removed I bet due to scary 35screws in laptops., yah. NO PC told at all btw
VAIO is not a PC, it is brand
yes spilled drinks or worn out w,
    as all gamers do .

SOURCE: my keyboard automatically typing letter y and apostrophe's..

Sounds like the keyboard might be bad. Run your fingers thru the keys in a sweepting motion and see if that stops the keyboard from continously typing keys on the screen. If that doesn't do it then its time for a replacement keyboard.

Sony Vaio keyboard repeating letters

Keyboards to wear out, but are not expensive to replace. Multiple key strikes and sticking can be caused by spilling "stuff" into the keyboard, even crumbs will do it.

The letters o l . & , will not type on my Sony VAIO PCG-8112L. What to do?

The keys have probably gone bad on the keyboard. I'd recommend you just get a new one. Replacing a keyboard is actually pretty easy, and you can get the part from online for fairly inexpensive. Just make sure the models match because all VAIO keyboards are not alike. There are several tutorial videos if you need them on youtube for simple repair work. Don't be daunted, it usually just involves a few screws and popping the keyboard out. This isn't anything you should pay someone to do unless absolutely necessary.

I have a sony vaio vgn fs980 laptop. all of a sudden the keyboard stop working. i purchased a new keyboard. However the same problem exists. I can use an external keyboard that will work fine but the...

On every computer motherboard there is what's called a UART chip. This chip is responsible for capturing every keyboard click, interpreting what letter it is, converting it to zeros or ones used by computers, and sending it to the processor for action. If this chip fails, even replacing the keyboard won't fix it.
Unfortunately this chip is usually part of the motherboard so the only way to replace it is to replace the motherboard, which usually isn't cheap. If you can live with the external keyboard you might want to stay with that. Otherwise, if you Google sony Vaio motherboards, I'm sure you can find a number of sources online to purchase a motherboard. Replacing one is tricky but not insurmountable if you take your time and can follow directions, also available online.
Best of luck! Hope this helps!

Hello
If the new keyboard is behaving same, then try to plug in an external keyboard to see if that works okay. You can use any USB keyboard. If this keyboard works, you have a hardware problem and need repair from Sony Support.
Hope this helps, Good Luck

There is not so much that could be done to repair a keyboard. Disassemble the laptop, check the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard. If the ribbon cable is loose, tighten it. If it is tight, replace the keyboard with a new one

sorry but even a small amount of liquid can work its way under the keys. you could try getting a can of compressed air to dissipate the liquid that has seeped under the keys, if not then you will need a new keyboard or take the keyboard apart
