Model VF550M. What causes the picture to look like this?

It doesn't really look like a typical backlight issue to me

You have 'No Signal'. Check the Input, or Source button on the remote. Also make sure your cable box or satellite box is switched on and working. sometimes a full disconnection of everything is good for the soul :>)

The 2 suspects are possible but there is a way to find it..try to get the control board and remove the vol+ button on it..then back the controller then power it on again try to push vol- on remote or TV..if no help you have faulty main board..

These new plasmas are very sensitive to dust I had the same problem with mine I would press the volume and the channel would change or i would put it on one channel and it would go to component by itself I took it apart and blew it with a can of computer air and cleaned the buttons with alcohol and swabs works perfect now. hope this helps

SOURCE: Vizio VT470M no picture, no sound, no backlight. Power supply board looks good all voltages appear correct.

Im having similar problem and with my limited knowledge of lcd tvs and the voltages ALL being good except the pwr on or sw on voltage from the main board to the power supply which tells it to switch everything on Im guessing that something is going wrong on the main board. In the condition where it freezes it (the power on V) which switches everything on i get varied voltages such as 2.5 or 3 or (the normal 5v) and then when nothing powers up (blank screen) i read 0v on pwr on voltage but all my other voltages are corect (24v to inverter, 12 v to main board, 5v, etc.) Im guessing from researching this is that there is in improper voltage somewhere in the main board circuit. I have been unable to find it so i may order another board and post back.

VIZIO VF550M LED comes on but no picture or sound. Next day TV works fine for awhile. Which board is bad and needs to be replaced.

Possible backlight driver board , check with flash light at back preferably thus opening somewhere to see if there is a pic but you can't see without backlight . Failures usually caused by led failures putting to much stress on backlight output.

Your Vizio symptoms are typical of NO BACKLIGHTS caused by either a faulty Power Supply / or faulty backlights.

I have a proscan PLDED3996A TV that will turn on for about a minute then it loses its picture and has only sound. Then if you turn it off and then back on, you’ll have picture for shorter intervals each...

Hi,
As far as finding replacement inverter you can do a search via google to see what you find. However, the inverter can be built into the main board of the TV, which would require you to replace that. I found through a quick search that the main board can be had for about $30. http://tvchopshop.com/all-tv-parts/proscan-plded3996a-e-main-board-3393a-zp-vst-3393-a-refurbished/
It could also be a power supply problem too, bad caps, as well as the backlight itself. It looks like you could contact the above site and ask them the typical failures of this TV for the symptoms you are seeing. If you consider yourself experienced with electronics repair, you could repair it yourself. Otherwise consider a new TV or taking it in to a repair shop.

You have the typical problem that is plaguing alot of LED tv's these days. One or more of the LED strips is open which is keeping the backlight off. It is repairable but not a good job for a rookie to learn on. Try to find a good technician or repair shop and get a quote first. You may decide it's better to just buy a new tv.

Show a torch light on the screen from a safe distance, when program runs. If you can see the picture, the problem is with the backlight and might require the attention of a qualified service technician. Also try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player.
