Question about Yamaha CDX-396 CD Player
So the first problem i had was tray not opening. After a bit of tinkering i got it open and it soon became apparent that the problem was laser module not clamping down, and on this player that is done mechanically and i just synced the gears and that problem is fixed, now the laser clamps down when ejecting and up for playing. Now to my actual problem (i included previus part because i probably screwed something up there)... When putting in a disc, i get the same result as when i try to play something without actually inserting any disc, track 0 at 0:00. Now i think it is trying to tell me the infamous "no disk" error, just the display doesn't have such a function. I also can very much see that the disc is very much not spinning, and clicking sounds can be heard. I think that is the laser trying to focus. So i did all i knew for and cleaned the diode and adjusted the voltage, but to no avail.
You have a problem with the try control circuit. It could be the switch is leaking across itself. Could be a problem with the tray motor control IC, or the Microprocessor is not reseting the open tray line correctly, or theres a cam assembly inside the unit that tells the microprocessor where everything is by means of small micro/leaf type switches thats out of alighnment or broken. If its seven years old, you got more then it was designed for and I would'nt invest a dime or the time into the repair of this unit. Time to take a trip to the electronics store. Good luck

Had the same problem. Found an answer digging around and it worked: Press the STOP button and the OPEN button at the same time. Hold for about 10 seconds and it UNLOCKS.
I even went back to Bestbuy and they had no clue. But it worked!

SOURCE: this disc cannot be played
I am tired of these tediuos firmware updates that are for the most part USELESS. I have done everyone till their latest 1.8v. I still can only watch 1/3 of new monvies which really arent all new now. I paid $1000 some for this flagship unit. In my book it has sunk. Samsung will not even address my problem except wait for a firmware comming soon. I WANT A REPLACEMENT OF A SIMILAR NEWER MODEL OR REFUND. I have spent well over 20,000 on samsung home theatre products and I will boycott them forever. When I pay for something I want my moneys worth.

If you don't have the tools to open your 360 go to best buy or an office supply store and get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the dvd drive. If that doesn't work then the lens needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and alcohol. This has worked for me on numerous occasions.
