First thing that should be checked is proper voltage.  Low voltage can cause this problem.  Have that checked by a professional first then let me know what you find.

SOURCE: Kenmore electric stove heating element how to replace

A replacement is usually around $40. There are usually 2 screws holding the element in the back of the stove. Turn off the power and remove the element. There are usually only 2 wires. It really doesn't matter which goes where. Install the new element and see if it will shut off when oven reachers temp. If it continues to heat, there is another piece that needs to be replaced. If there is a contactor or relay replace it, If not the thermostat needs to be replaced. Sometimes when the element burns out it shorts to the ground and fuses the contacts forcing the element to stay on. Sometimes you actually have to turn off the power to the stove.

Hi, It sounds like the ignitor has gone bad. Remove the floor panel in the oven and locate the ignitor fastened to the burner. There should be 120V going to the ignitor harness.
If you have voltage but no ignition, change the ignitor.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

It appears your Ignitor has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

I have a Kenmore stove model 790.92402013 and oven is not working. Surface elements work. When the oven is cut on, there is a slight pause before the oven light shows on the control panel please help.

You should be having one of about 4 problems.
1) A wire could have burned into two parts inside the oven in the area of the connector. ( or somewhere else )
2) The heating element could have burned out.
3) Where the heating element is connected to the feed wire could have failed.
4) The control unit that tells it what to do has failed.
The first 3 you can see when you take it apart.
The last one could require an electrical tester.
God bless your efforts.

i believe this oven was designed to reach a set temp and then interm shutdown to keep that set temp..If oven elements turn back on when temp is raised higher than previous temp ..then there is a good chance its working properly.this is a saftey feature to keep elements on stove from overheating..

Does the element have continuity? if so, it will be the element switch that needs replacement... Generally, the radiant element will be held on by two screws and a steel plate, note the wiring before removing the old part. I have a kenmore 953 freestanding stove, my wife was making pizza and the oven made a strange sound, the display is no longer working, the oven stopped heating, and she attempted to turn on the burners,...

If you will type "SearsPartsDirect" into your search engine, you can then enter your model number and you will see all the parts of your stove.
What should have happened was, either an element failed, or the element wire connection inside the wall of the oven failed, or a wire has "toasted" in the electric box inside the back of the stove.
You will need to take the oven out (away from it wall, perhaps) & give it a good inspection with an electric meter to find out where the problem lies.
God bless your efforts.

Lower oven does not work. Ind. light comes on but no heat

It sounds like your heater element is burnt out. Get a volt meter.unplug the stove.take off the back, disconnet one of the wires connected to the element and test it. It should read aproximately 11 ohms if good. if a high or no readind, the element needs replacing.
