Question about Heating & Cooling

Having issues with my true GMD-41SL-54, fans blower is running but unit has stopped cooling. It stays a little over room temp but fans keep running. It started 2 days ago all of a sudden. It was working just fine the previos night. No weird noises like bangs or clicks but i do hear a slight hisss inside not sure if its normal or might be related.

Sounds like the relay (start device) on the compressor has failed. This is a very common problem especially for models that are 3-5 yrs old. I would replace that first.

The fan motor is getting hot and going off on the internal overload in the motor.
This is caused by either a low voltage, a bad capacitor, or tight or dry bearings in the motor.
To check the bearings turn the power off to the unit, then spin the fan blade if it spins freely then the bearings are ok.
To check the capacitor you will need some kind of tester or you can buy a capacitor and replace it, that's what a lot of people do. They usually don't cost very much.
To check the voltage you will need a voltmeter and measure the volts at the unit.

If anything, it appears undercharged. Purging is not recommended. @90 degrees the high side corresponding pressure is 168.4 and Low side coresponding numbers re70psi/68degrees. With all due respect to the tech I think . If your room temp is 80, the corresponding high aide pressure is 143.6 , Low side 85 psi Yup, undercharged. Now do me a favor and don't start any "but he said" wars going. If anything, Just call him back and tell him something is still not right. Ask him to bring you a pocket rergerence for temp/pressure relationships. The numbers I gave you are for R-22 which is commonly used in residential applications. Well, good luck and keep your cool. IDon't purge. R-22 is very expensive asis everything else. You may want to dispute anny additional service call charges. Good Luck

How To Test the Compressor Relay The compressor relay's purpose is to start the compressor. A faulty relay can result in the compressor failing to cycle on. The relay is accessed from the lower rear of the refrigerator the relay is located in the terminal box which is located at the side of the compressor.

Before testing a compressor relay, unplug the refrigerator to avoid an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor, it must be discharged first to avoid the risk of electrical shock.
Beneath the terminal cover is found the compressor relay , overload protector and the electrical terminals of the compressor motor.

Remove the compressor relay by pulling it straight off from the compressor.

Pull the wire off of the side terminal of the relay. It is connected with a slip on connector. Firmly pull the connector, do not pull on the wire. You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Inspect the connector and terminal for corrosion. If either is corroded they should be cleaned or replaced.
There are two types of relays you may encounter, wire coil and solid state. If the relay has an exposed wound wire coil it can be tested for continuity. Otherwise, the relay is of solid state design and requires specialized equipment for testing.

Nordyne E1EB 012HA, outside unit would only come on at times when kicked if it didn't run normally. The Honeywell Programmable thermostat has Cool On I have tried to reset it also but it stays on.

First of all, fan on the tstat (on or auto) is referring to the blower fan not the outdoor fan. For the outdoor fan to run system must be set on cool and the setpoint temp must then be lower than the room temp. So what you are saying is the unit begins to work when you kick it??? Possibly you have a lose wire somewhere, check all connections outside. What type of checks have you performed on the capacitor?

Could be a bad blower motor resistor,mounted by the blower.

True gmd is not cold

Is the fan inside running? Is the coil in there frozen? Is the cooling coil blocked with dirt, paper or wrap? Is the compressor running? Is the condenser clean and the fan running? If all of these things are good then that's all you can do besides calling a repair tech. Good luck and hope this helped.

We have model #57915.54. The fan and compressor run, but is blowing hot air. Is there freon for the unit? If so, I heard that there was a kit you could purchase to do it.

To get proper cool, keep the tips as follows:
1. Check air filter is cleaned. 2. Check indoor coil is cleaned. 3. Checkindoor blower motor is working. 4. Keep in cool mode. 5. Set temp minimum 3degrees less than room temp.6.Check compressor is working with correctpressure. If leak call repairman to rectify it.

My honeywell Thermostat reaches the heating temp. but the fan will not stop running.And yes the fan is set to auto.It just keeps running and running and running.It stays the same temp but will not shut off...

I want to give a simple explanation before I go any further. On the heating side of a unit even though tthe temp has satisfied the thermostat, the fan will run until it cools down the plenum where the air flows from the air handler. There is a bimetal switch called a fan limit that operates the blower when the plenum reaches the temp set on the fan limit switch. Now if your fan keeps running even after the plenum chamber has cooled down, then you could have a fan limit switch that is stuck in the run position and must be replaced in order to correct the problem.

Cant keep cool

You need to check that tour filters are new. Then check that air is coming from the vents and is at least 15 degrees cooler than room temp. If no air coil is frozen, or blower motor and run cap are not working. If frozen than turn system to off and fan switch is on until you feel air through vents.
You'll need to make sure the outside unit is runing and the larger copper line is cold like a can soda. If it's cold but is freezing up, it needs to have a charge added. If its running but not cold and the fan is not running or the compressor isn't running it could have a blown capacitor. If its not running at all check. the circuit breakers and reset them. And a good idea to keep the outside unit washed with water,and that it is clear of weeds and stuff.

The blower has absolutely nothing to do with outdoor air. Having the T-Stat set to auto lets the blower come on only when the A/C-heat comes on. With the switch in the ON position the blower simply runs all of the time. Depending on your living space (high ceilings, multi-level) having the blower on constantly while costing a small amount to run can actually save some money and make you more comfortable in the summer. However most people will leave it in auto in the winter so they don't feel as if they have a draft from the air movement as the blower is in high speed in fan on position and cool modes and low speed in heat mode. Many furnaces today are equipped with a setting that allows the blower to run constantly at a lower speed or simply run for a min. or two after the A/C=Heat have turned off.

Hello Hamid,
The unit is designed to run the indoor fanmotors continuously when in cooling mode on both indoor units (evaporators). The reason is that this circulates the air and the temperature thermistor or sensor is able to sense return air temperature and in turn start or stop the outdoor unit and compressor as required according to the setpoint temperature. The reason for either unit not reaching setpoint temperature can be a couple of reasons. A) Incorrect design - the unit may be too small for the application. You can calculate this roughly at 650BTU per square meter of room in a relatively warm ambient climate. Or secondly B) The outdoor unit has leaked and is short of refrigerant. You can check this when the outdoor unit is running by feeling the thicker copper tube on the right hand side of the unit. This should be cool to cold. If no temperature difference is felt, it is short of refrigerant. Hope this helps you. Goodbye

Sharp Air Conditioner. Model # AF-S85NX. Does this A.C. fan cycle on & off in the auto cool mode or does remain on continuously. I need a small A.C. that cycles off and on with the compressor.

If you set you r AC to FAN mode the unit will not cool, it only runs in the indoor but the outdoor will off. If you set to AUTO the unit will cool but the indoor blower will automatically run slower when the room is cool or attain the room temp. setting. If you set it to COOL the fan speed is fix depending on your setting and it also operate in cool.
