CMD commands not working in windows 10?

When I run cmd and go to DOS none of the commands work ie ipconfig etc? Ran cmd prompt in safe mode sfc /scannow /scannow did a preliminary scan and then posted the following message "Windows resource could not perform the requested operation". Running the cmd prompt from windows as an administrator and entering sfc /scannow results in the following message "windows resource protection could not start the repair service" any ideas?

This issue can be caused by corrupted user profile and system files.

For us to better assist you, please answer the following questions:

Are you logged in to your computer as an administrator?
Can you tell us if you're getting any error messages when you try running cmd and running it as an administrator?
Does the issue also persists in safe mode?

what you are describing is the blue screen of death, meaning theres a hardware or software problem, try to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore, if that doesn't work use your XP cd, let it load the drivers and the ask it to fix the existing XP installation, anything that you have saved in my documents should be safe and the problem should be solved. If the blue screen reappears then you have a hardware problem

SOURCE: cannot get ip address from

Hi! Are you typing cmd in run (in start menu). If you want to check your ip address and can't see it through this way then open control panel, go to network connections, double click on local area network, then click on properties then click on internet protocol(tcp/ip) and then on properties tab, you would be able to see your ip add over there.

SOURCE: windows xp shutdown after entering ipconfig, cmd on start-run...

could be a virus

do a system restore if possible to before the issue stated, then run a virus scan (maybe run an online scan in case your installed antivirus has been infected) something like housecall.trendmicro.com

If you cannot do a system restore in full windows, try it in safe mode (tap F8 during boot, select safe mode)

SOURCE: my (Win XP SP2) command prompt does not work

First off, lets try a few things. This will help us narrow it down:

  • Try typing other known commands to see if they work (ipconfig for example)
  • Do a search on your computer for cmd.exe (you should only have 1, and it should be in the system32 folder.)
  • try typing cmd.exe instead of just cmd.
Give those a shot and report back. Depending on which one of these give you a problem, it could point to the correct fix.

The reason I say this is that your easiest solution may be to upgrade to SP3. The only times I've ever heard someone having this problem was also in SP2.

IF it is windows 10:

Create administrator account for Windows 10 with command line As you've lost access to all your user accounts, you can't open a Command Prompt in Windows 10. Therefore, you need to get a Command Prompt and use command lines with the help of a Windows 10 setup/installation disc.

Step 1: Boot your PC from a Windows 10 setup/installation disc.
Tips: If you have no any Windows 10 disc, burn a Windows 10 ISO to a USB or CD/DVD drive to instantly create one.

Step 2: When you get to Windows Setup screen, press Shift + F10 to bring out a cmd.exe dialog. Then execute the following three command lines.

1. Type move d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak and press Enter to make a copy of utilman.exe file.

2. Type copy d:windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe and press Enter to replace utilman.exe file with cmd.exe file.

3. Type wpeutil reboot, press Enter, and disconnect the Windows 10 disc from the computer to reboot Windows 10.
Note: Replace d:\ with your system drive letter.

Step 3: When Windows 10 reboots up and comes to the sign-in screen, click the Ease of Access icon. This should open a Command Prompt dialog because you have replaced the Utilman.exe file with cmd.exe file in the second step above. Then execute the following two command lines to create a new admin account for your Windows 10.

1. Type net user /add [username] [password] and press Enter to create a new user account.

2. Type net localgroup administrators [username] /add and press Enter to add the newly created user account to your Windows 10 administrator group.

How to give test print through command prompt in windows-10.

you can print a test page from the command prompt using this command:

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /k /n “\\atl-ps-01\color-printer”

If you wanted to, you could wrap this command up in a VBScript and execute the test page from there. For more information about running command line tools from within a script take a gander at this classic Tales from the Script column (it’s actually the first Tales ever written
