Question about Sony Televison & Video
VCR starts playback but recorder thinks it is still rewinding. This also occurs with Sony digital camcorder

This does require disassembly to remedy the problem. There are various possible fixes. The most prevelant I have seen is cold solder connections of the board connector for the fpc cable from the top operation switch block ass'y. All you need is someone who can handle this task, like a professional. The controls that you are experiencing problems with are all linked with one cable and connector. One bad solder joint can cause serveral operation faults. Good Luck, magic seadog

The belts are slipping. Every 5 years is about right for replacing them all.

SOURCE: how do i record on the vcr
do you hve anything going into either the cable in or the rca (red white yellow)?
if you do then make sure the correct input is selected

SOURCE: rewind or fast forward
Try cleaning the pinch roller. A cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits should work, you may need several. Play a tape through to clean off the methanol residue. Avoid touching any semionductors !
If this doesn't work, you've just a tired motor.
