Why can't I get Wii off press A to continue screen?

Try resynchronizing the wii remote.

Hold the power button on the front of the console until the light turns red.

Press the power button again to turn the system back on. On the Health & Safety screen, press the A Button to continue to the Wii Menu.

Select the Wii button from the Wii Menu, then select "settings." Select the right arrow to go to the third page, then select "System Update."

No. If 4 LEDs are blinking, then wii remote is not sync with the Wii. In other words -- the controller does not see the Wii and the Wii does not see the controller. Click the following page on Nintendo's website to find out how to Sync the Wii Remote with the Wii:

Are your controllers sync'd with the Wii? In another words, on the bottom of the Wii Controllers are 4 blue lights. Is one of those four lights illuminated? If not, it will not know that you're pressing it -- you will have to sync the wii remotes.

Hi there, there are 2 simple things you could try,
1. Unplug Wii from power for an hour and then power up and try again 2. Resync Wiimote hold red button in the back of wiimote at the same time as you press the red button on your Wii (Under the from panel where the SD slot is).
Also one question. Has your Wii been softmodded at any stage?

have you got good bateries in your remote?

try a different remote

Make sure you connected your sensor bar and point at the screen using the hand cursor.

make sure batteries are ok, sounds like it is not in sync.

Did you download the homebrew channel? or tried to?
if you did then that is probably why it freezes

does the cursor show up? have you been pointing towards the sensor bar? Are the batteries ok?
