Question about Braun Health & Beauty
Cleaning under running water / Switch on the shaver (cordless) and rinse the shaver head under hot running water until all residues have been removed. You may use liquid soap without abrasive substances. Rinse off all foam and let the shaver run for a few more seconds.

All you have to do is take the base apart. Turn it upside down, and there are two plastic clips on the rear portion of the base. Press them in with a key or screwdriver and wiggle the base a bit to remove the inner portion from the outer shell. Make sure you unplug the unit and remove the cleaning cartridge before doing this. Once it is apart, place a small wedge underneath the portion of the electric contact that sticks out to touch the shaver, and press the back of that portion out so that it slightly bends the contact strip and makes it stick out a little further. Then remove the wedge and put the base back together. It will work again, as the contacts can now protrude to touch the shaver and run the cleaning and charging cycle.

These cleaning station units can be found in good used condition on "that auction site." I recommend you buy one from there. Or you can get a new replacement at a website like shaveroutlet.com. Good luck!

SOURCE: Braun 8585 shaver, charges fine,
The problem is the base, not the shaver. Most likely, the circuit board inside the base has gotten wet and is damaged. If this is the case, it will need to be replaced. You will find a replacement at shaveroutlet.com. See link below
