The required, (but not included), 4 "C" size batteries fit inside the coal car. One "AA" size battery goes in the pump car, (which has a lantern light, besides the pumping soldier), and 3 "AA" size batteries are needed for the remote control. There are separate switches on the engine, the coal car and the pump car to activate all the features of the train. The directions are explained on the remote control devise.

Sounds like a connection problem/error. When you replaced the starter solenoid, do you remember how many wires you disconnected and reconnected?
Was there any indication ( sparks, etc) of accidentally causing a short when you replaced the solenoid?
Your initial problem of no start but hearing the click sound is almost a sure fire indication that the starter is NG. If the solenoid clicks, that means that it is applying 12 volts to the starter.
hope this helps Good luck Loringh
SOURCE: BATTERY IS DRAINING EVEN WHILE CAR IS NOT IN USE
I stated "such as a light " there are many, many other causes of 12 volt drains such as a seat switch that might hang up and stick. Empty that battery overnight. First install a 9V Battery Radio memory / and clock or you will have to reset both. Disconnect BLACK negative cable of battery. Using a 12V testlight, connect one end to the disconnected cable, and the other to the negative battery terinal. It should light. Remove the 20A BODY and LIGHTER fuse first . This will eliminate the courtesy light circuit . If light goes off the drain is on that circuit. STILL LIT ? drain is on another circuit. Start by eliminating fuses. Hope this helps.

Yes, Fords have PATS system, which is what controlls your keyless entry. It is the computer for your key fobs and keyless entry. You might have tripped itby accident, and your only solution is to take it to a dealership or someone who has Fords reprogrammimg computer to have it reflashed.

the fuse pannel on the left side of the dash pull cover off and look at the diagram on the panel cover look for cluster its a 10 amp fuse. make sure your car is turned off pull out that fuse and replace it with a new one the old fuse will look like there is nothing wrong with it but it is faulty. then turn your car on and it should work just as it did before you pulled out your battery hope this solved your issue
