There are a few steps you may take to troubleshoot and fix the issue if your Tascam DP-24 displays the "writing failed" error message when you're attempting to record:
Verify the disk space on your device to make sure there is adequate room for recording. Writing mistakes may result from a lack of disk space. To make room on a computer, move recordings there or delete superfluous files.
Format the Disk: In some cases, correcting writing errors can be accomplished by formatting the internal hard drive or SD card. When formatting, you should exercise caution because it will remove all of the drive's data. Before continuing, make sure to back up any crucial recordings.
The internal hard disk or SD card must be formatted using a file system that is compatible with the Tascam DP-24. Usually, the device is compatible with the FAT32 or exFAT file systems. If the file system is not supported, writing errors could occur.
Examine your file naming practices. If you have been using certain characters or symbols, try simplifying the names and deleting any special characters. Certain characters could cause the device problems when writing files
.
Update Firmware: See if your Tascam DP-24 has any firmware updates available. Updates to software can occasionally fix flaws and increase the stability of the entire system.
Make sure the input connections and cables are secure and working correctly if you're recording from an external source. Writing mistakes could be caused by a bad cable or connection.
Factory Reset: As a final option, you might think about doing a Tascam DP-24 factory reset. Remember that doing this will reset the device to its factory settings, so make a backup of any crucial information before starting.
Contact Tascam customer service or refer to the device's manual for detailed troubleshooting instructions if none of the aforementioned measures succeed in fixing the problem. They might be able to offer more support or guidance that is suitable for your circumstance.
Take Note: Keep in mind that the particular actions to be taken and the choices you have will depend on the model and firmware version of your Tascam DP-24. Always consult the user guide or contact the manufacturer's assistance for the most accurate and recent troubleshooting procedures.
Unfortunately no such driver is available, because tascam have discontinued that particular model.
Here is a way to get your recordings off the device
On the Tascam main menu, select "Wave."
2) On the Wave menu, select "Export Master." This saves your mastered
song to the correct folder.
3) Connect the Tascam DP-01 to your computer. You will get a message
telling you your USB device has malfunctioned.
4) On the Tascam menu, select "Disk."
5) On the Disk menu, select "USB OPN/CLS." Your computer should detect
the DP-01 as a hard drive & be visible in "My Computer" on Windows.
Since the unit powers up and displays an error message it means that the power supply is working to some extent. The hard drive is probably malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. The DP-01 I have uses an 40 pin IDE 3.5" hard drive so finding a replacement should be easy unless it needs special formatting like TIVO drives.
As for the first solution - why do you think a PC hard drive needs -5v? The PC drive power connector has four pins - two grounds, 5v and 12v.
Midi on the DP-01 is only for time synching with another device, synth, etc. To hear your synth through the DP-01 run a 1/4" patch cord from the audio outs (R and L) on your synth into the A and B inputs of your DP-01. Then assign the inputs to tracks and arm them for recording. You should then be able to hear your synth playing out of whatever you are using to monitor you DP-01 (headphones, stereo or powered monitors). To record the synth output simply press play and record together on the tascam.
This is an error in Tascam's code that usually means 'out of disk space'. Try using 'delete unused' to free up some space first within the song you're on and after that you might consider backing up some songs to your PC and then deleting them from the DP-01 to free up more disk space.
No CD comes with the DP-01. The Tascam relys on your computers USB drivers to work.
You should probably try the DP-01 on someones else's computer first to se if it works there.
This is usually some kind of incompatiblity between the usb cable or the use hub and the usb speed (1.1 or 2.0). I would try bypassing any usb hub you might have in use first. If that doesn't work you might want to try another usb cable.
