Not sure if I'm reading the question correctly, are you asking if you can update firmware on your TV even though it's not a smart set? If so, yes you can but it's not as easy as a smart set, go to Sanyo's website on your computer, put the model in and select firmare updates, you need to install it on a flash drive then insert the flash drive into the TV and follow instructions.

I have a Sanyo tv model #FW40D36F, Serial # ME2A1634260047 (A5G24UT). Heard a click sound and it shut off. TV is dead no power no light. Tried restart - nope. Is this likely the power board?
Sanyo's are notorious for having bad power supply boards. The "click" you heard was probably a capacitor popping.
