Yes! All generators should be grounded. If they are not it can create static around the generator and in the tank which could cause an explosion.
Also if there is a fault in the alternator or wiring it can make the Generator itself a live feed. Resulting in electrocution if someone touches the generator. We have seen this more than once.

In the states, a portable generator that supplies ONLY equipment mounted on the generator and/or cord and plug-connected equipment THROUGH RECEPTACLES MOUNTED ON THE GENERATOR do not require bonding to a grounding electrode.
