It isn't unusual that a portable tool or appliance will fail to work and once the power outlet and the plug wiring has been checked the unit must be partially dismantled for further checks - about seven times out of ten the trouble is found to be an internal break in the power cord.

Bypass power switch

You should simply purchase and install a new switch. It's not safe to bypass the switch as when you do, the entire electrical load is placed on the wall prongs when you plug in or unplug the vacuum. Depending on the brand of vacuum, you can easily order parts and replace the switch at a nominal cost.

Hi I have a Henry vac, the power does not come on, I have changed the fuse inside the plub, it just doesn't work, please advise, thanks.

There is still other problem beside the fuse. Check the cord, power switch. Often they are the most usable and abuse parts of the vacuum. The cord are often bend, roll over the floor. While the switch
is the almost use before and after the vacuum is used.
Thanks for asking.

Was vacuuming with no problem and the vaccum just shut off. . .what can I do?

Check that the electrical cord if fully inserted in the
wall outlet. See if the vac has a circuit breaker switch
on the electrical plug called a GCFI,or on the vac itself, which probably has tripped. Good luck.

My Shop Vac 90L600A is getting electric thru the cord and into the switch, but it doesn't switch on when you toggle the switch from off to on. Is it a bad switch?

Check the othere end of the switch. You may have a brushes problem in the motor. You will have to check the switch while hot - be careful

Shop vac 90L400 stopped working won't start

I had the same problem with the same model. Turned out to be the thermal fuse on the motor housing, between the switch and the windings. Took it apart and replaced the melted solder with 14 guage copper wire. Works fine! No thermal protection but I don't use it for long at a time anyway. Check the switch for continuity, if good then check the thermal fuse for continuity. If good, it's the motor.
