Just bought a lawn trimmer but the blades are loose. How do I tighten up the blades so that they cut properly. A special star tool seems to be needed which I do not have .Please advise.

B&D Hedge Trimmer (HT33) was working yesterday but not today. Motor sounds fine & the blades move back & forth ... just not cutting any foliage ... any ideas?

Mechanical issue. Make sure that the screw that holds the moving blades up against the non moving blade is adjusted properly. If loose, the blades will not be close together during the cutting stroke and no cutting will ensue.

How do you replace the blades on a 42 in. deck? do they need to be placed in a special way?

use the blades for leverage when loosening the bolts. when putting new blades on, hold the blade in the star center hub install washer and bolt. use blade for leverage when tightening.

Hi. It all depends on the Lawn trimmer. What brand is it? You can go back where you purchased the Lawn trimmer and ask them for an attachment blade to use for trimming hedges (did you mean hedges as in edges?). If they have blades specifically for your trimmer then you can do best if you have it attached to the trimmer by them experts. Otherwise if you do it yourself and it's not attached to the trimmer properly, and it comes off while spinning at high speed, you'd better run for your dear life, man! Hedge blades, like the one I have on my trimmer, are subjected to strenuous work and can come lose if not attached properly. The main part is that you treat hedge blades with care when doing the changes yourself. I am not saying that the blade which is similar to a saw blade, could come lose and separate itself from the shaft and fly towards you, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Poorly attached blades do come lose and fly like a flying saucer spinning and whirling in all direction like a yo-yo. Cheers

Mower blade is spinning loose is not connected to motor. did a stud brake cause not is tight

Don't ever run a mower with a loose blade. Most push mowers have a blade adapter that slips over the engine shaft and allows the fastening bolt (and it should be a special hardened one with 6 lines on the head of it) to thread into the end of the crankshaft. The adapter could have slipped and needs to be repositioned on the shaft so that the blade can be properly tightened.

The line trimmer does not cut the line i have to keep a pair of scissors to trim the string in my pocket

The trimmer guard should have a small steel blade where the line strikes the shield that keeps the line cut to the correct length. Check your shield to make sure the blade hasn't come loose. If it has, you should be able to get a replacement blade for it. If the shield has been beaten up too much, you'll have to replace the shield.

The trimmer is not cutting the way it should, the bottom blade seems out of place and I cannot put it back in place

Conair trimmers are only good for about a year and they are hard to put back once you have messed with them. does your blade pop off or does it have two phillips screws holding it in? If you take the blade off completely you should see two arms that are in there, you have to place the blades back on correctly and hold them together while putting the screws back in. be very careful not to tighten the screws too much. Oil your blades with 3-1 oil and then turn them on. adjust the trimmer and see if everything is level, if it is try cutting withem and see what happens. If the motor sounds good but the blades are pulling your hair rather then cutting it then you need to replace your trimmers because your blades are daul.

I changed the blade on my Toro Edger attachment but the left handed thread on the nut doesn't get tight. Is it supposed to or is it some special design that doesn't allow it to be overtightened? Does the...

the hump side of the washer goes toward the nut so when you tighten the blade it pushes the washer against the blade and allows the blade to stay tight as the washer flattens some
if it still doesnt tighten and you dont need much to get it to tighten then put another regular washer between that washer and nut or you may need a new beveled washer

hopefully this will help you some

I have a Homelite 25cc trimmer. It will crank but will not run but a few seconds? Have cleaned Carberator and replaced Gas.

you either have one of two things wrong. my first guess is that you have a crack or hole in one of your fuel lines causing it to not get enough fuel. the reason it will run for a few seconds is that you pump a little fuel in when you prime it. my second guess is that you have a very plugged fuel filter or something obstructing the fuel lines. take a look at the lines all the way very closely for cracks, as this is very common in seasonal tools like these. let me know if this works. if not, i will help you get it fixed. thanks.
