2001 GMC Sonoma. All 3 brake lights don't work , bulbs relatively new, fuse not blown. All other light functions work, including Hazard Signal Lights. Does that sound like the brake light switch under the steering column finally went kaput?

sounds like it could be a blown fuse or possibly a loose wiring harness plug . or could be you didn't get the bulbs reinstalled properly I've seen it all so don't be offended . good luck

Yes, it does have a flasher, although it may be a combined unit with the hazard flashers relay. So you hear the clicking of the flasher relay? That seems to indicate the relay is working properly. Have you checked the bulbs and the turn signal fuse? Any turn signal bulbs light up anywhere, front or back?
How about your brake lights, do they work? Your car may have separate, stand alone turn signals in the rear, but many American cars use the same bulb and same filament on the bulb for the brake lights and turn signals. If your merc is like this and the brake lights work, then the bulb must be good.
Turn on the hazard flashers and see if all bulbs work and flash at each corner of the car. This would be the same bulb as for the turn signals. If they work, it could be a bad turn signal switch, may even be the flasher relay somehow malfunctioning, and in a few cases, a bad hazard switch can affect the turn signal switch. Check fuses and bulbs first. If you have any type of body control module that controls lights and other accessories, you may have to investigate that. OK try this, push and hold brake then push on the hazard switch if brake lights come on then replace the turn signal switch.

ck for a bad turn signal switch

Check the brake light switch should be a orange wire with 12v then a white wire with 12v when the pedal is pressed.If htat cks good then ck the hazard switch by moving it up and down and wiggeling the knob with the brake pedal pressed if they start working then your multifunction switch is bad and needs to be replaced.

Check for power out of brake light switch by brake pedal. Of its faulty , the 3rd brake light will still work. Hope this helps

please check your brake light switch located near the brake pedal. it could be faulty.

I had the same problem with my 2001. I found it was the multi function switch. Better known as your turn signal switch. I found that the hazard switch portion of it had shorted. replacement is fairly easy, aftermarket part is available, much cheaper than GM.
