Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a VISIO XVT553SV model TV. S/N LAPPGLAL2300607. Unit has no standby light. I have power to the unit. The fuse is good. I have a good fluke meter, and know how to use it. Looking for help troubleshooting the repair of my tv. Is a very large tv and prefer to repair this one if possible, rather than spending $1000.00+ for another new one. Any and all help appreciated Thanks Matt

That is precisely why I am asking what to do. All caps look to be ok. Nothing visually burnt, etc. are there specific points to check the power supply.

SOURCE: Looking for SK-26H520S Power Supply Unit

I had a similar problem where the TV would turn on then shutoff when bumped or over time. The clue was a "tick" sound when it shutoff. Unplugging and reconnecting the power cord go it going again for a few minutes anyway.

I took the unit apart and found the solder connection on the power supply unit was cracked where the main transformer attaches. The solder connection joins the PC board. I suspect the weight causes the joint to stress crack. This is easy to fix by removing the power supply and touching up the solder connections around the transformer. I'd check this first as it is very difficult to locate power supplies and other parts.

SOURCE: I need a service/repair manual for a Pioneer SD-643HD5.

you dont need a service manual. the problem is the convergence chips and it has been plaguing these pioneers for years it is either the bad solder joints on the chip itself or the chip is trash anyway go to tvrepairkits.com and they will help you get everything u need

No power output or display.green standby light flashes.

Sounds like either a blown mainpower fuse or the thermal fuse for the power transformer. If the protect circuit was kicking in, the display would light up, but then turn off with a red blinking light. the green light with no display means the transformer is not getting power.

Vizio XVT472SV will not power on. The orange standby light lights up. Nothing else.

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.5_3_2012_10_18_35_pm.jpg

Samsung LN40C610N1F. When plugged in, the red standby light comes on, but when I hit the power button the unit will not power on. The light doesn't blink or anything.

if set opened look for puffed up caps like these on the power board.

Hello. You might try to re solder the power supply and deflection area, Also the common problems of this TV are the capacitors that lose value. But I think you have loose connections on the card. Good luck, if you have any questions, I'm here to help you with more details. thanks

UNIT WILL NOT TURN ON AND NO STANDBY LIGHT IS PRESENT

There is a fuse in the back right by where the power cord goes into the unit. You can pick them up at Radio Shack pretty cheap. This seems to be an ongoing problem with this model. Good Luck

The unit does not work

check the standby power supply first and then the main power supply.also check the output transistors and fuses your problem is in one of those points, normally the standby transformer goes bad, it is the small one right next to the big one.
good luck
