What does a low ohm reading on motor pins 1-2, 1-3, 2-3 Frigidaire LAFW7000LW0 washer mean? I got an E58 code. Seeing readings between 1-3ohms. Help?

If you have a front-load washer that was manufactured by Frigidaire, the E58 error indicates high current on the motor. This could mean that the motor is bad, the bearings that the tub spins on are bad, or a problem with the speed control board. To test this, you'll need to access the motor and tub area of the washer. Unplug the power before opening the washer. Take the belt off the motor pulley and check if it spins freely. If it doesn't, then replace the drive motor. If it does spin freely, check if the large pulley on the tub spins freely. If that doesn't rotate, you'll need to replace the outer tub and spin basket in order to replace the failed bearings. If the pulley rotates easily, you'll need to check the motor windings. If the resistance is between 4-6 Ohms, the speed control board is probably faulty. If the resistance is not in the correct range, the motor is bad and needs to be replaced.

Based off the information from your manufacturer "E56" stands for high motor current. Looking up information for your technical data sheet it states that you need to perform test 9:

1. Remove the belt from the motor and spin the motor pulley.
Does the motor spin free? No, replace the motor. Yes, go to step (3).
2. Spin the tub pulley. Does the tub spin free? No, check the tub bearings. Yes, go to step (3).
3. Disconnect the plug from the motor and measure the resistance of the windings (pin 1 to 2, pin 1 to 3, pin 2 to 3). All readings should be between 4 and 6 ohms. If readings are correct, replace the Speed Control Board. If readings are incorrect, replace the motor.

F6 error code displayed


The F6 error code for this model indicates a drive motor tachometer error. The control board is unable to properly detect the motor speed. If you have a volt/ohm meter I can give you a few checks that will help you diagnose the problem. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. You will need to gain access to the MCU (Motor Control Unit), and ohm the motor windings and the tachometer . MCU connection should be as it is in your washer, there should be 5 black wires and 1 green wire. The black wires are as follows, pin 1 on top and pin 5 on the bottom . Set your meter to read resistance and check pin 1 to pin 2, pin 1 to pin 3, and pin 2 to pin 3, these should all read approximately 6 ohms. Next check pin 4 to pin 5, it should read approximately 115 to 125 ohms. If any of these readings are not very close to the values I have given you, check continuity on the wires from the MCU to the drive motor. If the wires check good, the drive motor is bad and will need to be replaced. If all readings are close to the values I gave and there is not an issue with the wires the MCU will need to be replaced.

The error is an indication a motor speed problem. You will need to check the following:

- Check the wiring harness. Verify all connections between the Drive Motor, Motor Control Unit (MCU), and Central Control Unit (CCU).

NOTE: The MCU is a circuit board located in the vicinity of the Drive Motor on the bottom rear of the washer. To access the MCU, you will need to remove the back panel of the washer.

NOTE: The CCU is the main computer for the washer and is located behind the wash tub. You will need to remove the top panel to access the CCU. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the top in place. Once the screws are removed, the top panel will slide back, then lift off.

- Check the Drive Motor. Perform a continuity check of the Drive Motor windings. Remove the connector plug and check across pins 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and 1 to 3. All readings should be approximately 6 ohms. HINT: You can also take this reading by removing connector 2 from the MCU and measuring across pins 1, 2 and 3. If the readings are good, this will also prove the wiring and connector good.

- Check the MCU. The connectors are numbered 1 to 3 (L to R). That is, with the MCU installed, connector 1 is on the bottom, followed by 2 in the middle, and 3 on top.

Connector 1 - is the serial communications link between the MCU and CCU and has three wires. At the opposite end, this will be the 2nd connector from the rear on the left-hand side of the CCU.
Connector 2 - is the link between the MCU and the Drive Motor. Pins 1, 2, and 3 on this connector are the Drive Motor windings. Pins 4 and 5 are for the tachometer.
Connector 3 - is the primary power connector. Pins 1 to 2 should read 120VAC with the door in the locked position. Pin 3 is ground. At the opposite end, this is the 4th connector from the right on the front of the CCU.

NOTE: All the connector pins are numbered R to L.

If your continuity readings are normal for the Drive Motor and you have verified all connectors, replace the MCU.

If any of the Drive Motor windings indicate readings higher that 6 ohms, replace the Drive Motor.

I started with E20, pulled the hoses off and the drain was clogged. I "put it back together" and now Im getting E59 code. What did I do wrong?


E59 No tacho signal for 3 seconds. This is a motor issue. follow the steps bellow to diagnose this issue.

Remove the belt from the motor and spin the
motor pulley. Does the motor spin free? If the answer is no to the question, you will need to replace the motor. if the motor is free, move on to the next step.

Disconnect the plug from the drive motor and
measure the resistance between pins 4 & 5
in the motor. If the meter reads other than between 105 & 130 Ohms, replace the motor. If the reading is between 105 & 130 Ohms, move to the next step.


Disconnect the plug from the motor and
measure the resistance of the windings (pin
1 to pin 2, pin 1 to pin 3, pin 2 to pin 3). All
readings should be between 4 and 6 Ohms.

If the readings are correct, replace the speed control
board.
If the readings are incorrect, replace the motor.
