I have the same issue with my 3 month old Lumix DMC FS15 plus it won't focus and gives the error message to "turn camera off and then on" This doesn't fix it.

Bottom line fix: Don't buy this camera again and don't recommend other buy it.

My fs15 has just developed the same problem - after about 5 years of v light use. Had a similar problem when on first holiday with new camera - cleared dust then it worked; unfortunately this was at the end of the holiday - now only got poor mobile phone pictures of the scenery. Only used it to take ebay photos since then; a very delicate camera.

My Panasonic TZ25 says "System Error - Focus". What should I do?

Panasonic DMC TZ25 compact camera - System Error (Focus)
- Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera (suggested by Andrea Lock, above). I actually had to try this several times as camera was refusing to reset properly, but after a few goes, lens retracted and camera began to work again. Thanks Andrea.

System Error (Focus) ...Lumix DMC-FS15 works, pauses, then results in a white error screen with the following error message:

My camera started bringing up "system error (zoom)" and it was completely inoperable. I would turn it off, but the lens wouldn't retract unless I applied slight pressure to it. I was able to FIX this problem by applying some lubricant oil to a Q-tip and swiping it around the telescoping parts of the lens, being very careful to stay away from the actual lens. I turned the camera on and off a few times so the oil could work its way into the parts, and it fixed the problem. I don't know if it will be a long term solution, but I can at least download my pictures to my computer now!

Panasonic DMC-FX35 error message

Sounds as if it has either received a knock, or foreign matter (grit etc) has got into the lens mechanism.

Lens is stuck in the extended position. Turn off and on and it emits 2 buzzing noise like it's trying to retract the lens and then this error message pops up: system error (focus)

There could be sand or dirt in the mechanism. This would mean getting the camera serviced. With Canon cameras with similar problems, some people have found gently applying a twisting, pushing or pulling force to the lens barrel has freed it up. Good luck!

Camera focus error

there is a small logic circuit that controls the motor that retracts the lens and a sensor that tells it the lens is retracted, it is a lens position sensor, one of these two components is most likely defective, the thing is there are no consumer service info provided by panasonic, they will not sell you parts either, the camera is a mystery to take apart and repair without the tech manual which u can't get, so u see the delima here, u must either have this camera fixed by a panasonic repair station or see if it qualifies for a upgrade exchange program for a newer model.

Error message- remove lens cap and press > button

Is your lens not retracting?
I've got the same problem and with the lens not retracting - this is why i get the message.

Low battery maybe? Try holding camera firmly in one hand, with camera on and in record mode, and strike in on its edge firmly on the heal of your other hand. This technique is often sucessful with temporary camer 'quirks' like freezing, lens not fully retracting, etc.
