Without speakers indicates that it is shutting off due to thermal protection. Do not store anything on top of it, especially any device that has heat of it's own and give it plenty of air space all around it, at least 6 inches.

I had a similar problem with my NSX-999. For CD, u need to clean the laser or buy a new cd-laser pickup KSS-210A.
For dim display, replace capacitor C107 and C108 in the mainboard if u know how or take to a repair shop and ask them to replace those two capacitors. It soled my problem

Help with my NSX-350M? Power button won't work. Digital display is frozen. Tried plugging and unplugging. Red lights above TUNER/ BAND & VIDEO/ AUX won't turn on. Was working just last night!

Sony nsx-40gt1 doesn't turn on and red light

The 2 blink error for this model is letting you know that you have a standby power voltage problem. 99% of the time it is your power board. If you bought this set with in the last year, you are still covered under warranty. I would call Sony or a Service provider to get your unit fixed at no charge to you.

The remote control doesn't work anymore on my AIWA NSX-SZ50 compact disc stereo system.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:

They also sell replacement remotes.

Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remote", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

My Aiwa NSX 990 wont come on. Only timer icon come in display and volumew LED keeps coming on and going off at regular intervals

Unplug the power cable completely to turn off and then turn back on again. Check whether there are no lose parts with missing contact.
Most probably it looks like a deeply digital problem with no do it yourself solutions - bring it to the repairman, but I even doubt he would fix it.

On the remote hold shift and press timer button.
It should go off.
