Perkins 20 kva diesel generator runs and stops in about 2 minutes.alternator failure is displayed on screen.

Ensure any engine control switch is set to the run position, with the load disengaged. Manually set the air shut off valve (if fitted) to the run position (see Fig. 18), Turn the key switch to the start position, which will energize the solenoid allowing the engine to crank over for a few seconds then start.

Check the instrument panel is showing normal running oil pressure, and the ammeter for charge to the engine batteries.
Allow the engine to run for five minutes checking the instruments are reading correctly. Stop the engine and check the oil and coolant levels, replenish if necessary.

This sounds like a controller problem. If you are lucky, it's just a failing power supply filter capacitor (cheap and easy to replace if you are an electronic tech). Another possibility is the magnetron relay is sticking, and it's presently stuck on. That's about a $5 part from an electronics supply house. The worst case is the main controller chip - if that is a chip-on-board (circular black rubber blob in the middle of the controller board), you will have to replace the entire controller.

Generator will start and run easy, then just die.

Check for loose wiring connections, especially at the run or kill switch. Generators vibrate a lot so it could be as simple as something loose.

Generac Generator won't stay running

It sounds like you are not producing any voltage. When you start your generator have a volt meter on the generator breaker to see if there is voltage present when the genset is running. Also, check you oil pressure switch, which is near the oil filter.
