From what I see on other disposals, the hex is in the middle of the bottom. Remove the paper tag.

Thanks for your answer. Usually they are there however I understand now why this model is discontinued. I actually removed the entire disposal, and discovered a coin lodged in the erator. Once removed and cleaned, the unit works fine.

SOURCE: How to knock out garbage disposal plug

Turn off the power source to the garbage disposal. Take the drain hose from the dishwasher off the connector going to the disposal (if connected). Insert a flat blade screwdriver in the drain hose fitting and tap a few times with a hammer. The plastic plug will pop off inside the garbage disposal. Reach inside from the top of the disposal to retrieve the plastic plug. Sometimes you have to use a little force to tap the plug out. Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: garbage disposal (water won't drain out of sink standing water)

There should be an overload button somewhere on the bottom of the disposal motor. This is to prevent the motor from trying to run if the chopping blades are jammed, otherwise the motor would burn up.

First, try to move the blades with something like a broom handle. Using a flashlight you should be able to see the blades. there's probably three of them. try to make sure each one can move even a little bit.

Next, with the disposal switch in the off position, find the overload button and push it in, Then turn on the disposal switch and see if it runs. If the overload button trips off again, repeat the above steps until the blades can turn.

Let me know how this goes. Loringh

SOURCE: Removing dishwasher drain plug on a new garbage disposal.

The plug is thin plastic. Use a flat blade screw driver and a hammer to knock it out. I know this sounds primitive but this is how it is done. I have been a plumber for thirty years.

How to unlock a Montgomery ward900 garbage disposal?

There should be a screw hole in the very middle of the bottom. It should be a 1/4" or 5/16 hex shaped hole for an Allen wrench.

Insert the wrench into the hole and then move it back and forth Until it spins easily.

Whatever is causing the drum to lock up should be extracted from inside before you run it again.

Be safe when you've got your hand in there.

Replace flywheel seal garbage disposal

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
  1. Look for a six-sided (hex) hole at the center of the bottom of the disposer.
  2. If you find such a hex hole, look for a hex wrench, usually stored in a pouch on or near the disposer. If you don't find one there or have one in your toolbox, you will need to purchase one. Don't use a screwdriver or other tool because it can damage the hex hole.
  3. To free the flywheel, insert the hex wrench in the hex hole and rotate it in a circle in both directions.

When I turn on the garbage disposal, it hums.

It's probably jammed. There should be a hex key stored under the sink with the disposal. It's a 5 or 6 inch long steel bar with a hexagonal shape when viewed from the end. This is often called an "Allen wrench" (that's a brand name). The hex key that came with your disposal would be in a Z shape with the two bends somewhat less sharp than 90 degrees. If you don't have that wrench, you can probably borrow one from your neighbor, or just buy one at the hardware store. Anyway, you insert the key from underneath the disposal into the very center. Turn the it back and forth to make the disposal turn a bit. Remove the key. Then try the switch again. If you have a very hard object (like a spoon) in the disposal it will quickly jam again. If so, you will have to remove the object from above. Good luck.

Have the badger 5. I try pushing the reset button and still wont work. Can I try something else

Hi!!
In the bottom center of the disposer (by where the reset button is). there is a hex shaped hole, where you insert the garbage disposer too, usually attached to the body of the disposer. If the tool is not there, use an Allen wrench, 1/4" I believe, to turn the disposer first counter clockwise to get it loose, and then clock wise to check if it got loose. Some times, you have to insert your hand in the sink hole and remove wherever object is making it stuck. Before you do this, unplug the unit from the wall outlet to avoid possible injury.

Disposal hums but doesn't rotate. I would like to know where the reset button is so I can see if that is the problem. I've tried turning the inside mechanism but it won't rotate...

There are several things you can check. First make sure the unit is off and check for debris stuck inside the unit. On the bottom of your Disposal is a slot for an allen wrench also most have a reset button here also. First take the allen wrench and turn the unit around several time manually before you do anything else. Now run some water down the unit and see if it will turn on. If it doe not try the allen wrench one more time and do the same as above. Now try the reset button. If this works great because the next step requires you to take the unit off. Let me know if this works before we go to the next step. Hope this helps.

The blades on my Badger 1 insinkerator don't move. The motor hums when turned on. The reset button stays out when pushed.

You will need to free the blades by inserting the food disposal hex key or a 1/4 Allen Wrench into the very bottom of the disposal in the center. After inserting the wrench you need to turn it all the way in both directions to free what has the blades held up. It may be hard to turn but afterwards pull the debris out from inside the disposal. Hit the reset button and it will work. Do not keep turning it on until you free the blade and then reset.
