SOURCE: Yamaha PSR-280 : AC power instead of DC power

An answer, but likely not a solution. I believe all Yamaha PSR series keyboards use the same 12 VDC adaptor, so I looked at the electrical schematic for another model I have. There seems to be no fuse on the power input. There are two components shown on the positive and negative wires off the power socket, but the symbols do not look like anything I have seen for fuses - they may be resistors. Power goes directly to a 5 VDC voltage regulator, which powers all of the solid state componenents. Too much voltage of the wrong type could have easily ruined many of the sensitive components.

Your only hope is to check the power socket area for the possibility of having fuses. My drawing shows the power socket, voltage regulator, and audio power amplifier being on one circuit board. That may not actually be the way it is in your model.

Good luck!

YAMAHA PSR-70 Keyboard - Lights On - No Sound
This may be the cause if the unit has not been powered up for a while; switched LEDs come on but fails to produce any sound from either or both channels:
Normally one would suspect faulty headphone switch jack or faulty LA4500 power output chips.

Most electrolytic capacitors can be slightly leaky (tens or hundreds ofkilo-ohms) after years of non-use.. They are re-polarized / reformed when equipment is switched on after aperiod of non-use and this effect would probably not be noticed since it make only takeseconds for all electrolytic capacitors to come up to specification...
In the circuit used for the Yamaha PSR-70(see the Sanyo Applications Notes for the LA4500)there is an 'anti-thump' / slow start capacitor (220uf 16V, aluminium electrolytic 'ripple filter' capacitor) connected between pin 9 and ground (of both LA4500 audio output chips in the PSR-70).Since these hold the chip in a power down condition, they cannot 'reform'from a near rail voltage normally present when the chip is turned on, due to lack of power and thus continually hold the amplifiers in a quiescent power down mode..
To remedy, they need to be disconnected and reformed with a 9Volt battery. After the Chips have powered up, there should then be about 90% of the rail voltage on their PIN 9...

They are not necessarily faulty, they just needs for the equipment to be powered up working for a minute (every year or so).Alternatively a4700 ohm(2m/A) resistor temporarily wired from the (9V) + rail(PIN 1) to PIN 9 of the LA 4500 may do the trick..
This reported fault may be very unusual or fairly common (these keyboards now being almost 30 years old...)

Hope this helps someone out - feedback will be appreciated

No power to the switch but will power up with batteries

Hello,

One of two most common possibilities are a non-functioning AC adapter or keyboard AC adapter connector next to the Power On Switch has a cold solder joint and does not pass voltage.

Dead keys yamaha psr e413 keyboard

Dead keys on Yamaha PSR e413 keyboard: Flip keyboard upside down, remove cover screws (use marked cardboard template to remember where they came out), spray suspect key-contacts with fast-drying contact cleaner, (usually a PCB with a matrix of contacts under keys), re-assemble base cover, wiggle faulty keys as far as possible to 'scrub' any dirt or oxidization. If this cleaning trick doesn't work, get a pro to check it.

Repairing Yamaha psr-12

If the power adapter is not the original adappter- check to make sure the polarity is correct- it should be marked on the keyboard near the adapter socket, and also on the adapter itself.

The keyboard should have an internal fuse- check that. Then with keyboard open, if the fuse is okay, trace the power flow from the power pack and look for broken wires, bad solder connections, stressed components like bulging capacitors, etc. It may have a burned out zener diode in the power supply regulator portion of the main circuit.

Yamaha psr e313 can't switch on. The adapter is

Check that your power adapter is 12 volts DC AND MOST IMPORTANT is the center pin is positive... this is reversed of MANY adapters used for pedals, etc. The current rating should be around 1.5 amps. Don't take another techs word for it... check it yourself.

I require a user manual for a Yamaha PSR 6000 Organ to down load

Yamaha has the user's guides available as PDFs for most of their instruments on their site: http://download.yamaha.com/top/?site=usa.yamaha.com&language=en . Enter PSR-6000 or select Pianos & Keyboards > Portable Keyboards > PSR-6000 and then press Select.

The link to the manual will display below the search area.

I hope this helps.

Likely a connection to the backlight is being broken. Tap on the unoit and see if it pops back on. Illuminate screen with a flashlight and see if the characters can be seen when screen is faded. If they can, then the backlight is the problem... IF NOT then the display may be bad... This has been a problem and if you are under warranty, excersise it immediately... else replacement of the display is relatively expensive.

Hi, i think you can. You can go to any of the Yamaha companies around you area and explain to them the problem of the keyboard. They will give you good and quality replacement part for your Keyboard.

Make sure you go to only Yamaha company to avoid getting a wrong part for your Keyboard.Avoid road siderepairsforissue like this,it's more complicated to handle

I guess that will do.
