Question about Timex Watches
HOW TO START YOUR WATCH Quartz Movement:
To start your watch remove the plastic guard from under the crown, then press the crown in against the case. The second hand will begin advancing in one-second intervals. Some deep-depth water-resistant watches require the setting crown to be screwed in to secure water-resistance. If your watch case has a protrusion with screw threads, the crown must be screwed in after setting the watch. To screw in, push the crown firmly against the threaded protrusion and hold in while turning the crown clockwise. Continue to screw in the crown until it is tight. You will need to unscrew the crown (counter-clockwise) before pulling it out the next time you want to set your watch.

I had the same problem, and could not find any answers on timex.com. After you place the battery in and it begins to beep, push all four buttons in at the same time. This should "reset" the watch -- at least it did for me.

I ran into the same problem w/ my new Timex Expedition. I emailed their help desk and they said that the Expedition models do not have lap memory feature. You need an IronMan watch to get lap recall. Wish I knew that before getting this Expedition watch...

It is either a screw on case back or a "snap-on. I suspect that it is the latter since you don't mention that you used a tool to unscrew the case back. So getting the back on sometimes is very difficult. I have a special tool for that to apply even pressue and the necessary force and does not put pressure on the crystal. You have to be careful to not damage the crystal. If you don't get it done, then suggest you take it to a shop that has the right tool. If you have very strong thumbs you might get it done.
