Hitachi Ultrabright Focus Issues...please help!

I also have a Hitachi Ultravision 61SBX59B projection tv and am having the same problems with misconvergence. In particular, my red is severely misaligned (green and blue seems fine). This is a recent development, after 9 years of flawless performance, but it has rendered the TV almost useless as the picture worsens every day. I'd like to know how to perform the manual focus options mentioned previously on this forum, and if anyone knows how to either fix the problem myself, or what to expect as far as repairs are concerned (parts, costs, etc), please post a reply.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Terry

I can certainly do the soldering myself...so that's no problem if that becomes my only fix action. I've managed to perform the magic focus (duh) and the center and static modes...is there any other "manual" convergence adjustments I can try prior to spending the money to purchase the new ICs?

First I would check dry solder joints on convergence section of TV and would resolder all dry dry/ cold solder joints found there. If that does not solve red color misalignment then problem is failure of convergence out IC as TV has pair of IC, STK392-110 mounted on big silver heat sink on main board needs to be replace both IC and required IC is available in Part Store (click link to have price info and an image of IC)
You can replace ICs by yourself if you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can solder parts in circuit board and have necessary tools to do so.
If you feel uncomfortable doing this, call local TV tech to fix TV that would charge $150 or so for repairing excluding parts.
Thanks.

    ========================================================================

It is hardware issue in TV as adjustment does not become bad at its own until some one change its data/ values in service mode and blue and green is intact that means adjustment data is just fine in TV EEPROM. No need to perform manual adjustment. This is common problem of rear projection TV.

As I said, please check cold/ dry solder joints around convergence out ICs, specially nearby STK's pins and resistors. If resoldering does not solve red misaligned problem, then order parts.
    Thanks.

Broken screens on 53'' Hitachi rear-projection TV

I think it would likely work if you trimmed it evenly around the sides in order to maintain the central position. Focus may have to be adjusted but thats all.

HATACHI IS OUT OF FOCUS

This can be a number for things. Believe it or not dust or cig smoke in LCD and pix tube projected TVs turns up looking a lot like focus error. Is the focus bad or do you have a convergence error (red, blue or green shading) Is there any smearing or blooming to the pix? The other comment for you is the TV is 9 years old I personally consider this very close to the life of the product. A simple good pix would tell volumns for someone like me (may need some resolution on the pix).

One half of picture is distorted

to create the total geometry in the tv is needed a system called Convergence.Convergence amplifiers are damaged in this unit, magic focus cannot work because magic focus works to level computer and controls the amplifiers damaged. this repair is for a technician because an adjustment is needed after the amplifier's replacement.

Hitachi Ultravision 50" projection Tv

This is an indication of convergence issues. There are two ic chips that control this and there is a likely hood of there failure and need to be replaced. there possible other issues with ouput resistors and fuses. At my shop the cost to replace these chips are 200 to 350. not a too difficult repair.
