Question about Sony Televison & Video
Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Testimonial: "This was really helpful, although I am a bit confused. I replaced both the power board and the main board, which led to the alternating flashing lights (green/orange) that appear to be constant rather than in a series with a pause. Would a firmware update via usb solve the problem? Before replacing the power board the tv did not turn on at all so I then replaced the main board as well and the flashing lights are now the result."
3 blinks is a lamp cover error, did you make sure that the lamp cover is screwed in tight? Also check the lamp cover for deformity, there is a problem with your model where the set over heats and melts the lamp cover a little causing it not to make connection with the lamp cover switch. Let me know if you find either of these problems? If not we can troubleshoot a little further.

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the solutions
