I have a brand new magic chef chest freezer model number HMCF7W3 compressor gets hot but does not run I tried a three in one start run relay same thing

Check condensor not clogged up, fan working etc. If all ok, try new capacitor and relay. If all else fails, replace freezer (compressor replacement is costly)

It is short of refrigerant. Needs leak repair, vacuum and new gas. Or new freezer!

Sounds like slow Freon leak. You might get an estimate over the phone before calling a technician, but I would think a 3-year old box is worth repairing. If the estimate is close to the replacement cost, that might not be the case.

first of all are you sure its running correctly,if its overly hot to the touch is may sound like its running which it may be,but only on the start/run windings and if left this way it will burn out soon,it needs start/run windings to oppose the pressures inside the compressor to get it up to correct operating speeds,then the start winding cuts out of the circuit,this is where the ptc overload comes into play,as it does this sequence switching to make it operate correctly,just unplug it from the compressor and plug in a new one,also you may think you hear the compressor running,but its only the fans in the unit running,a compressor will run warm but shouldn't be overly hot to the touch,then if this isn't your problem,it could be an evaporator core blocked by ice and you cant get cold thru a solid block of ice so iuf its a self defrost model the defrost thermostat or defrost heater might be inopertive too

Compressor may be bad. You can try replacing starting device that plugs into side of compressor

Feel compressor to see if running and warm. If not, most likely thermostat control is bad. If it is running, determine if it runs continuously or if it's clicking on and off every couple minutes. If clicking on and off, replace overload and relay that plugs into side of compressor. If running continuously, there is probably a freon leak on blockage. Replace freezer in latter scenario

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. This freezer uses the chassis to dissipate heat so that the freezer can freeze. There is not a condenser fan. So what you have is a basic and usually trouble free freezer. If your freezer is not cold at the bottom of the unit there can be a couple of causes:

1. The compressor is running slow due to the rotor dragging on the compressor stator.

2. The PTC relay contacts on the compressor are getting hot and the compressor is shutting off before the temp control cycles the compressor off. Usually that is how PTC relays fail.. one hot contact and the unit cycles much more rapidly than usual and eventually the compressor stops running completely.

3. The system Freon has leaked out of the system and the unit is running on low pressure. (If this is the case the symptom will only get worse and very soon)

4. There is a very remote possibility of the cold control being damaged from an external bump by someone due to the fact that it is located outside the freezer compartment on the chassis.

just check up your relay in the compressor maybe its defective or defective compressor

If the compressor runs on 120 volts AC, (some are three phase DC, you can use a 3n1 hard start kit, they are very simple to use and cost around $20 dollars, you can purchase them at HVAC supply stores. If the compressor continues to short cycle after installing the hard start kit, then you need the compressor replaced and should check your warranty, this is often an expensive repair.
