I had this problem too. For me the answer turned out to be the paper sensor in the back part of the machine, behind the little back door just under the top part of the machine. This sensor hangs down from a thin rod that runs across the width of the machine, and is held in place by a small spring that encircles the same rod that supports the finger. The finger had apparently gotten moved so the spring was dislodged from its proper place. I was able to rotate it around the rod with my finger & get the spring moved back to where it should be. This seems to have cleared the problem--I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi ...
IN CLX 2160, paper jams usually occur in three areas of a printer. The following error messages indicate the area in which the jam has occurred:
Your error shows paper jam2 but i am giving you directions to fix the paper jams indicated by each error message so that you can handly any kind of paper jam issue with your printer.
Paper Jam 0
When your printer displays Jam 0, paper has failed to pass through the first sensor.
To remove the jammed paper, follow these steps:
If your printer still displays Jam 0 after you turn on the printer, unplug the printer, and then repeat the steps above. Make sure all paper has been removed and the printer's rollers are in their correct positions. Before turning your printer back on, make sure all the cover doors are fully closed.
Paper Jam 1
When your printer displays Jam 1, the paper has failed to pass through the second sensor and has jammed around the toner cartridge.
To remove the jammed paper, follow these steps:
If your printer still displays Jam 1 after you turn on the printer, unplug the printer, and then repeat the steps above. Make sure all paper has been removed and the printer's rollers are in their correct positions. Before turning your printer back on, make sure all the cover doors are fully closed.
Paper Jam 2
When your printer displays Jam 2, the paper has failed to pass through the second sensor and has jammed at the fuser.
To remove the jammed paper, follow these steps:
If your printer still displays Jam 2 after you turn on the printer, unplug the printer, and then repeat the steps above. Make sure all paper has been removed and the printer's rollers are in their correct positions. Before turning your printer back on, make sure all the cover doors are fully closed.
Please vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

Often a carriage jam is caused by a paper jam. If you're getting a carriage jam message and a paper jam message, this video should help.

I have had problems with this printer, too. See my Amazon review here:

(Mine is the second one down).
The Canon MP270 does seem to have a few problems. It's not one of Canon's finest products, to say the least. It seems to be getting a reputation for problems, problems...
I gave up and bought a HP Deskjet printer instead. I know that's not a fix, but I found it was the best solution!
