The device is USB powered and the first test is to see if it opens on another computer and if not, another cable. If it does not work, the next thing to know is the probability of being able to get the unit operating again is very slim. Those devices use SMT components and they require very specialized service and diagnostic equipment. That is the reason that these drives come with back up software. You need to back up the back up. There is a slight chance that you may be able to remove the drive from the housing and plug it into a computer directly, of use a universal cable to activate it. Keep in mind that the drive has a lifespan.
Thanks Brad, however this particular unit has a 12v power supply source and a usb port for file trasfer.
the external power pack must work, first.
is it the wrong one, and as Brad said fails on 2 PC, (non stated by you) that the drive/power pack is bad, only trying new power pack can anyone prove this, but is the drive silent.?
that is 3.5" drive and those use lots of current. (power pack must be good)
most are 12vdc at 2amps or more.
or the motor can not start up .
how old is this drive, seem very old to me
no books and verbatim fails a search there.

You probably damaged the drive from sudden disconnection of the signal line. I would suggest trying it on one other computer before considering it trashed.

When devices e.g. printer is connected before you installed the needed software, it can happen that the USB port is no longer recognized.
Then remove the device that shows having problems in the hardware manager.
Next install the software.
Connect afterwards or at the time the computer asks to do so.

Hello
A few questions that may confirm problem.
Does your computer seem to know that something is plugged in?
Or does it say that it does not recognize the device?
Well, if the computer actually knows that a device has been plugged in, but you just cannot see the device in my computer, here is how you fix that. Just follow these steps:
Control panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Storage
Disc management
Now you should see your device presented in the schematic below.
Right click on the device and assign a new drive letter.
If your computer states that it does not recognize the device, try plugging it in one of the back USB ports of the computer. Please rate this.
Best regards
