Question about Garden

My robin ec10 engin starts very easy but although the throttle is totally closed (in idle position) the engin keeps running at almost full revs. Please help.

You should measure the combustion ratio.Maybe piston rings failed.

fuel pump is working but when accelerating it doesnt pump enough fuel up to the engine then it will fall on its face if it is a electric pump you may have to drop the tank if it is inside and replace it if it is on the engine replace it thats what is exactly wrong with it

It sounds like your bike has been sitting in storage for an extended period of time (a year or more) - and the carburetors are plugged up. If this is the case, they will need to be completely disassembled and cleaned out.
If it hasn't been sitting (and the carbs aren't plugged up) then check that all of the normal tune-up items have been performed, especially valve adjustment, oil and filters, spark plugs, etc. If this fails to produce positive results, perform a compression check on the engine. Each cylinder must be able to produce at least 140 psi of compression in order to run and idle properly.

My money is on a partial blockage of the main jet or the passageway to it. You're having to force it to run through the idle jet by fully choking the incoming air. There's not enough gas coming in with the choke open to allow it to run.

I'm thiniking total carb disassembly, carb cleaner and an air compressor combined with a ton of patience will take care of the issue.

I have a 2003 883 sportster that keep reeving all on it's own when the throttle is returned to the idle position, what can I do?

I would first suspect an air leak around the manifold. If you are sure the cables are adjusted correctly, when you roll back the throttle you will close the butterfly on the carburetor. This in turn should put the carburetor in idle mode. As an engine needs air and fuel to rev up, your problem lies somewhere in this area. Check the operation of the piston in the carburetor making sure it is totally free to move up and down as this is a CV carburetor (assuming your bike is stock) as if the piston is sticking, this could cause your problem. Check for a broken butterfly shaft as these can break in the middle and not be evident. Check for air leaks by spraying WD40 around the manifold seals while engine is running and if engine changes revs then you have an air leak.

You have two adjustment screws on the carb, one is for adjustment the mix at idle and the other under throttle conditions. You can tune the engine by ear. Refer to your manual for which screw is which. If you don't have it you can figure it out by letting the engine idle and give one of the screws a half turn (CC or CW doesn't matter) if that affects the idle condition readjust that screw back to the original position and proceed to adjust the other screw with the throttle full pressed. You will be able to hear the engine lean out or when it runs too rich, simply listen to the engine for when it starts to rev properly.

Before one starts adjusting the carburettor's settings:
Bear in mind that small gasoline powered engines need to run at reasonably high idle revs - just to keep running. Unlike a motor vehicles' engine, where weight (and size) is no real problem, these small engines have no flywheel to store inertial energy and keep the engine running.
Adjusting the revs below a certain point results in the engine dying when the throttle is closed, and all the hassles of trying to restart them.
I seriously suggest maintaining the default settings.

Either the throttle is stuck wide open, or there is a large air leak behind the carburetor to cylinder connection. Make sure the carburetor is securely fastened. If it has a flexible connection to the engine, remove the connection and inspect it for tears or holes. Watch the throttle arm on the carburetor which should move from the idle speed screw to the full throttle limit casting/post when the trigger is pulled and released. If it hangs near full throttle, then remove the trigger mechanism (make notes of the parts positions) and clean out any dirt/sawdust. Check the air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Check the H needle adjustment after repairs by running the engine at full speed after warm up--the engine should 4-stroke unloaded, but immediately 2-stroke when cutting. Check the condition of all of the fuel lines including the line to the filter in the tank looking for decay or other damage. Use original rubber lines for replacement, not plastic substitute. These 4 cycle trimmers need to be primed 10x before a cold start. The bulb will feel *firmer* on the last two or three depressions and you'll know that the carb is primed.

Full choke and and full throttle on first tug should see it hit once with a puff of smoke. Second start attempt should be in choke position two (half choke) and with full pressure on the throttle. Should rev to life on start attempt. Let the engine IDLE for 30 seconds, moving the choke to off at the end of the waiting period. Let engine idle to warm another full minute with no choke, then set to work!

Are you laying off the choke at any point? Full choke should only be used when starting a cold engine, it should run with no choke on full throttle. If there is not enough throttle i'd first try adjusting the tiny black screw on the carb beneath your air filter while you have it idling, letting the throttle have a little bit more room. If this doesn't work and you're running it properly than you may need to make some adjustments to the H L settings for your gas/air mix. This is also done while idling mind you and only with a clean air filter.
