Solid amber light in front of desktop, nothing else work

System spec:
mobo: asus k8s-la 754socket
old cpu: amd athlon 64 3400+ 754 socket (cpu label code: ada3400aep5ar)
new cpu: amd athlon 64 3400+ 754 socket (cpu label code: ada3400aep5ap)
The other day, there was a problem with my heatsink. When i turned on my computer for about 15 minutes, it would get overheat and turn itself off. when i open the case up and try to clean the heatsink because it was filled with dust and dirt. Upon doing that i damaged the cpu because it was stuck tight to the heatsink like superglue. I end up getting a new CPU. but now nothing is booting up except the solid amber light. The only thing that came on was the PSU fan.
Here's what i did so far:
reset cmos
benchtest
reseated rams/video cards
replug all the cords
but still no luck. I'm thinking its the mobo. any suggestion would be apperciate.
Thanks

Bad power supplies, motherboards, and front panel connectors have plagued this model since Dell started selling them. I had the same model and after 3 motherboard replacements, 2 front panel fixes, and 3 power supplies it still only worked sporadically. In reality only Dell tech Support has the answer to the specific code as they do not publish them. After much research found out the design was flawed. You can try to keep fixing or you can go the route I did and cannabalize the RAM, video card, hdd's, cpu, & optical drives and purchase a barebones kit that is compatible with your parts. I found one for mine for less than $200. Hope this helps.

I think you have damaged a pin or something on motherboard and fried it

never ever force something of a computer especially the motherboard becasue everything is linked to it i accsidently dameaged the motherboard on my last computer it fried the power suppy.

your problem was not the heatsink its the fan thats the problem in your pc you need better circulation you should invest in better fans on the case and make sure its not graphics card thats overheating you can do it with many free apps from sites like majorgeeks

e.g. i use coretemp for cpu and i ot a built in one for graohics card

all the heastsink does is draw heat from cpu never clean it becasue its not worth the risk becasue it dosnt really do anything

id recomend taking everthing out of the case and putting all the components on your kiturn table and see which fans come on(there are fans on all major compnents)

i hope this has helped you if not feel free to mail me on

I want a dual core processor upgrade

You listed this under PC Laptop? It's a Desktop? Have you ever done a CPU upgrade? You are limited to what will work with your machine, Mobo and other components. Your Mobo is, of course, AMD compatible, so if you read the specs: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireX1200/AspireX1200sp2.shtml The AMD Athlon X2 dual-core is best option. Memory is a easy option to increase speed a bit. Remember, with a 32bit OS the most memory it can use is 3.80 GB's More or Less. With a 64bit OS use more. I have done many CPU upgrades, you may not get the Speed/ processing increase you expect. After all, the components work in conjunction with one another. Do your research on Socket type, Pins, Power requirments, etc., etc.Check, Verify, then re-Check and re-Verify. Use this little freeware program to assist you, it list Spec info in detail, SPECCY at: http://www.filehippo.com/download_speccy/.

K8s mx unknown processor

The Asus K8S-MX mobo?

http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/mb/socket754/k8s-mx/overview.htm

CPU (Processor) Support:

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/K8S-MX.html

IF, the mobo (MOtherBOard) is in a computer that is working, and internet capable, I suggest you use CPU-Z from CPUID.com

It's a free, tiny, tiny, program.
Information on CPU-Z on Wikipedia,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU-Z

(Home page URL of CPU-Z is listed to the right)

Should you need help in downloading, installing, or using CPU-Z, simply state so in a Comment.

IF, the motherboard is Not in a working computer, then you need to Physically look at the top of the Processor's case.

You are looking for the Part Number.

Examples using the AMD Athlon 64 processors,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amd_athlon_64_processors

(For the AMD Sempron processors, just type -
List of AMD Sempron processors, in the Wikipedia search box, and left-click on the magnifying glass icon.
Same thing with AMD Sempron 64)

Some basic photo examples of what the part number will look like, on the top of the Processor's case,
(Scroll the page down),

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/TYPE-Athlon%2064.html

NOTE*

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

You probably won't see it, Or feel it.
The Processor is the MOST susceptible hardware component to static shock.

Handle it by the sides of the case, refrain from touching the pins on the bottom.

Work on a table. Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case to relieve your body of Static.

If the motherboard is already out of the computer case, TOUCH the metal frame of an empty computer case, BEFORE you touch the motherboard.

On top of the Processor is a Heatsink.
This has to be removed.
There will then be Thermal Paste.

I use an old plastic credit card, (Non-static item) to scrape as much of the old thermal paste off, as I can.
Do Not bear down too hard, as you may make the Part Number unreadable.

I then follow with Q-tips dipped in Isopropyl Alcohol.
(Rubbing alcohol)
91 percent alcohol is best, but 70 percent will do in a pinch.
I would not recommend 50 percent.
(It's 50 percent Alcohol, and 50 percent Water. 91 percent Alcohol, and 9 percent Water is best)

It will take a lot of Q-tips dipped in alcohol, as old thermal paste is usually a gooey mess. (Unless it is dried up. Then it's worse)

CAUTION!
Isopropyl Alcohol is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE!!

Use in a WELL ventilated space with no flames, or sparks present.

Have any further questions simply state so in a Comment.
